If someone really needs to read a book to teach them what the majority
of road users would regard as common sense, then they ought to consider
    returning their licence to DVLA.

Nice stiff card cover, good for roaches. She could probably reuse the
    staples, too.

I'd hesitate to call any of the shit bikes I learnt on shit. Except for
    the Honda, of course.

Cool. You really gtot hooked then. How much did you do anyway?
Tested and rejected. At that time I didn't know the R36 existed, but
the Audi was just such an uninvolving drive, and I hate their single
interface to everything approch - in an hour and a half of testing two
A6s (one diesel, one petrol) I still couldn't work out how to use it
properly. The slushbox is just that - slushy, and while it's not slow
it never felt in the least bit quick. Didn't try a manual, mind.

Then we discovered the new Passat, and tested the 3.2l version before
deciding on the R36[1]. It's just as big as the A6 inside <checks - OK
very slightly less luggage room with the seats in normal mode, but the
same with them folded flat, and more rear passenger legroom>, ten
times the fun to drive and not much over half the price (once you
include all the options on the Audi). Oh, and the seats are better -
more comfort at the same time as a more sporty feel.

[1] Not currently available in the US, but the DSG-equipped 3.2 was
really very good indeed as well.

It's not bad per se, just that it's nowhere near as good as the Passat
and it costs a hell of a lot more. I had high hopes of it, but it
    wasn't to be.
Well what's wrong with the pickup then? I assumed you were wanting
speed and luxury as well, which were my requirements. In your case I'd
definitely be looking at a proper 4x4 full-cab pickup (the Ram hemi,
obviously, as the Ford's just too weedy and underpowered) for throwing
my skis in the back and cruising up the hill. I can't see why your
f150 would be a'crap ski car' either, as long as you didn't need to
    carry more then 2 people.
Eh? You're not talking new prices here then, as the basic model A6
atarts at around 50k plus tax. In fact, I don't see the Allroad as
being available in the US at all, according to audi.com
Not. The turbo diesels are certainly chippable, getting from 235bhp up
to 275 out of the 3.0 lump even with an official audi dealer-fitteed
chip, but there's very little to be had on the ~250bhp 3.2 petrol. No
    turbo, see.

Well duh! Don't you want to wheelie, drift the rear and GYKD all at
    the same time then?

Well I drove a Dodge Ram across Alberta and BC a coupla years ago,
giving it large in the most dodgy conditions, and it was an absolute
fucking blast. Then again, as I commented to you last year, the F150
rental I had handled like shit in comparison, so maybe it's just that
model rather than pickups in genereal?
Right. So another SOC in the stable then.
Ah, well we're clearly not talking about the same car here, and it's
clear that I know slightly less than fuckall about a 2003 US spec
    allroad.

But I still reckon a decent 4x4 pickup's the way to go.
