  1. Does anyone know where to purchase an aftermarket belt for this type
of bike? The dealer belt is >$300. OUCH!

When I bought my LTD I was told the belt would last forever.

Five years later I lost a couple of teeth about 1000 miles from home.
No dealer had the belt in stock, so I stumbled home at around 40 mph,
which is very scary on German highways that have no speed limit.
Imagine a porsche in your rear view mirror coming at you at 150 mph.

I don't like those belts. No matter what you do they always make
a squeeky sound. When broken, nobody has them in stock so
you'll have to wait a week, which is a rotten option when you are
on vacation as I was. What's more, after this I did regular checks
on the status of the new belt. Even though the Kawa manual
told about tell tale signs, I could suddenly remove a tooth
by hand. It just came off. And there was nothing like a tell tale
sign. By that time the bike had other serious problems, so
I gave it for free to somebody who had the same bike.

And those belts cost a lot of money. I paid around $300 for it.

I had a used one many years ago. I didn't have any problem with the belt.
But then, I never look for missing teeth on the belt. I sold the bike after
about a year to move on to larger bike.

I believe harleys also make bikes with belt, so belts can't be that bad.
