Beemer bits...

Basically yes, though the RSing dates from the time when BMW sold the
fairing kits specifically for the R54/65 models (as well as for the
R80/100) models. Apparently the mid section and brackets are slightly
different to those on the bigger bikes, but I'm not convinced myself.

It's a splendid little bike. I fitted BMW (Krauser) panniers to it back
in about '87 and at a similar time had the crank out and dynamically
balanced to rid if of most of it's vibration.

I've seen 118 on the (probably rather optimistic) speedo, two up, which
isn't bad for a baby Beemer.

I'd be up for one, aluminium or steel ( is that a stupid question...)?

Absolutely! I've got the number of a good anodising place, I'll let you
    have it[1].

[1] Right between the eyes if you get any more bright ideas...

Resistance is futile, as any fule kno.

Anyway, it's a sensible mod, and it's about the only thing left to do to
the suspension. All that remains is decent tyres and learning to ride
    proper.

Yeah well anyway, don't forget that the one with the 38.5mm forks is a
darker blue than the one with the 35.950mm forks.

Which sort of reminds me, what colour are the UKRM R80's? Mine's the
same blue as Platy's. Merijn? Owen?

Next you'll be saying the front doesn't clutch up nicely![1]

By the way, how to you find stability on the LS? I find the 65RS
ludicrously stable [2], such that it needs strong counter-steering to
get it to turn. The very short RS bars don't help obviously.

Perhaps a steeper steering angle would help. The (twin) ATE brakes may
    help in that department :)

[1] I didn't say wheelie. I just said clutch up. OK?
[2] Oh and bloody noisy as with the shorter stroke the valve gear is
inside the fairing with noise reflecting in rather than outside the
fairing with the noise reflecting out like it is on the R80

Tyres - Continental TKVs. Trust me on this. They are cheap, last a very
short time (2k rear) because they grip so well but are absolutely
excellent because they grip so well.

I have wheelied it (for very small values of wheelie) of the clutch,
    in first, from rest.
    yes - it's lovely.
I do the weighting the pegs thing, which helps. There're very short
bars on the LS too, but I'm not sure how they compare to RS bars. I
was actually thinking of putting Renthal flat bars on it...

Adjustable Jota bars are the beez knees. You might pick up a set at NEC.
I'll be looking out for same for the RS.
