Beautiful Evening for a Ride

  1. I love fall in Texas.

Early this evening, Steph and I decided it was time for a ride. I imagined
that we'd just do a short jaunt around town, but we got carried away by the
beautiful weather. We ran across a rider on a Moto Guzzi California, and
he recommended a place in Lake Jackson for dinner. We followed him, and
    enjoyed the impromptu group ride.

After dinner, a quick stop at the local Walmart (short socks are not fun in
cool weather at 85 MPH) and then we zipped home. Beautiful ride, perfect
    weather. Life is good.

Sobering thought: On the way, we saw the aftermath of a truck/deer wreck,
and it wasn't pretty. What's the consensus on deer whistles? Do they
    work?

  2. nope.

best tale i have is a report from an EMT driver who was en route with
full lights and sirens on the vehicle and they still slammed into a deer
that wouldn't get out of the way. true story. you think a whistle is
going to do any better than an ambulance in full display ?

    best advice ?

go deer hunting and help control the deer population. donate the meat to
the local food bank if you don't want it. deer season starts in
nonvember. seriously, the deer population is out of control and they
cause tremendous damage and injury every year to drivers.

Amazing how short rides turn out. I think this is one of the best
    benefits of ridding.

  4. Amen to that. Our quick ride ended up covering 120 miles and three
counties. And I think we'll do it again tonight.

There is not enough pork in this country to support feeding those
    critters!
