  8. And Belgium. The French may know how to cook, the Belgians know how to
    *eat*.

It'll be the building with the eery green glow emanating from it,
    surely ?

Or have movies been lying to me again ? I hate it when they do that.

S'funny you should say that. I was watching Eddie Izzard's "Mongrel
Nation" documentary last night, and they were talking about the large
black population there was in Englad, especially London, in the 18th
century, and what happened to it. What happened to it was that it was
absorbed - Steve Jones (the geneticist) reckoned that the number of
people in the uk with a black ancestor "much closer to 100% than 0%".

  13. There was a program on the box a while back where 'black' people traced
    back their 'roots'

One very adamant ' I'm black, torn from the bosom of my mother land
Africa by white slavers' guy turned out to be
genetically half German Caucasian and the other half was the black
Africans who supplied the slavers with captured people from raids on
    villages.

Genetics have opened up some very interesting facts about *us*, the
    people on this planet.

ridgy-didge? I'm depressed now, as I pride myself on being quite well
up on aussie vernacular. Is this a corruption of de-rigeur?

Faster than the speed of light? I thought that was impossible. Or
have I just been whooshed by a clever physicists joke?

  17. Faster then the speed of light in the medium the object travels. Nothing
can travel faster then c, the speed of light in vacuum. In water light
travels at about three quarters of c, so particles can travel faster
then this. The 'shockwave' is visible as Cerenkov light, which is
ultraviolet mostly, but when there is enough it spills over into visible
    blue.

Thanks to google and wikipedia, as I sure didn't know this, despite
having seen this blue light myself once when visiting a nuclear
    (research) reactor.

    Cheers,

One of the other great things about ukrm - when you can't be arsed to
google, there's always someone else who can :)

Shame. The very mouth sound of it feels aussie, and I'd love to know
    where it came from.
Thanks for that. My education continues apace
