Be Careful

  1. Be sure to have your insurance or Motorcycle Safety course certificate when
roaming thru Dallas County. Apparently there is some info about Dallas
County going to crack down on bikers not having the helmet sticker. Here is
the info I got so far....

"HEADS UP ON HELMET STICKERS IN DALLAS COUNTY

    from: MIKE of N.O.K.

posted in message board on 10/23/03

I was just talking to one of my truck drivers this morning 10/23/03.He told
me something I thought may be valuable info. It seams he stopped in a
service station this morning where a Dallas m/c police officer had about 8
bikers pulled over(I think he said hwy67).He pulled one of the bikers aside
and ask what was going on.The biker told him the policeman pulled them over
to inform them that Dallas county was about to start strick enforcement of
the helmet exemption sticker.I just thought this should be passed on. Ride
    safe everybody. "

Although they can pull you over to check, once shown proof of insurance or
safety course they are suppose to let you go. If you get ticketed, then you
can go to court and have it thrown out.
If you even see a judge you could ask him why you are there since the law
states that these items are accepted as proof and according to law the
county can be sued for not training their police officers when making
    wrongful arrests.

Of course you don't need to say anything to the judge. Just be careful out
    there

    Bill -

I am going to gig you twice, hope you don't mind. hehe

1st off, I always wear my helmet. Not because of any law or bullshit
regulation but because I've seen what happens to people that don't
wear it. Now it probably won't make that much of a difference in a
high-speed collision, but if I low side or have a low speed collision
I stand a good chance of making it. ;-)

However, I don't think that YOU (not you personably, Bill) should have
to or be forced to wear one if you don't want to. Same for seat belts
(unless you are a child and don't know better).

Now, if you choose to not wear a helmet and you have problems or
injuries because of that (in fact, this could be applied to all safety
gear), then you should accept responsibility for that.

To me, it's very similar to smoking..... if you smoke, no problem.
I'll even stop and have a smoke break with you. But, when you have
medical problems from smoking related illnesses, I don't want my tax
dollars going to pay for your problems. ;-)

    Gee, aren't I a nice guy? LOL

(now that I have pissed off just about everyone on here I'll take my
    leave of absence)

Again, I fully agree fullstate. I am a smoker also.

However, I don't think one can be required to accept respons-
ibility. If I crash helmet-less, or develop a smoking related illn-
ess, and have no significant assets. it's doubtful I'll just be thrown
into a dumpster at the nearest alley.

The solution to most of these, and other problems, is a big
dose of personal responsibility, but it's just like the uninsured
    motorist stuff. - IMO

  13. Ok, if we're going to do off the wall profound statements then try
    this......

"Give a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day,
set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."
