Just seen someone I know on this program - yes, it was the biker doing
    130mph

And yes, he's a damn fast rider, and much faster than me. He also
    crashes a lot, too...

He has 6 pot brakes, he told the copper so and was dead proud of them.
That rules him as a **** in my book.

  4. And he got just six points and a £130 fine (£1 for every mph).

I reckon that was a result.

Lucky not to be banned. His 6 pots helped with something then, maybe the
    copper was impressed with them.

  8. Fair enough - he must have known he was in deep trouble.

I'd have said: "OK, I've been a ****, you know that, I know that, now
for the love of Christ, do me for 99mph and I promise I won't be a ****
    again...."

"...At least, not on your watch."

Fair enough. Nice bike, the policeman was a nice guy. The motorcyclist got
away by being a nice guy. Lesson learnt.

I thought he was a bit of a bell end for waffling into that trivial plea.
The rider is as critical a factor as the condition of the vehicle, and the
    copper knows it.
Now if the fella had bothered to do a few advanced courses of merit THEN
mentioned it discretely to the copper and/or court, I would have
expected some leniency - unlike the 6 points and £160 fine that was
    warranted in this case.
"I'm a good rider cos I can see into the distance". Very good. Now take
these points and fine and begone.

Mind you I think he got off quite well with that.

  12. The motorcyclist *didn't* get away by being a nice guy to Plod. he got
nicked. He might have got away[1] by being a nice guy to the
    magistrates.

[1] In this instance, I think we're all agreed that six points and a
mere £130 fine for doing 130mph is, indeed, "getting away with it".

Excuse my ignorance but what are 6 pot brakes?

    John Smith says...
Brake calipers with 3 pistons in each side. Said to give better braking
performance, and they probably would if any bike manufacturer would use
a decent master cylinder that pumps enough fluid to make them
worthwhile. However, they don't. They fit the same master cylinder as
was used with the older, and better 4 pots.

There's also the fact that the Tokico ones as fitted to the Kawasaki ZX
and Suzuki GSX-R ranges will seize up and corrode when a damp tissue is
waved at them from 30 feet. They're rubbish and should be thrown away in
    favour of 4 pots. OPMMV.

That refers to how many pots of Super Noodles you can heat up in the
built-in microwave on a fully-equipped tourer whilst waiting to stop
    from 70mph.

Early BMW RTs were 4-pot, the later LTs improved to 2-pot.

    Six-pot brakes need looking at.

Would these be the same ones as fitted to the B12 K-models, like wot
I've got? They do work, but I still don't think they feel as good as
the old B6 ones (Nissin sliding 2-pots!) did with HH pads. Probably
    just my imagination though.

As did Suzuki on the K3 gixxer. They seem to just, well, work. Srill
on the original pads too, AFAIAA.

Completely different brake system, the K3 has 4 pot radial calipers as
opposed to the traditional style 6 pots fitted to the K1 and K2. Tbh a
nice set of AP Racing 6 pot calipers with PFM discs and a 19 or 20mm
radial m/cylinder is what everyone really needs.
