I hit it, then went on a shite holiday in Donegal where I had nothing
to do except eat, drink, read books and play the PS2.

Depends, do they regard having been caught speeding a criminal offence as
    such....

That they have a prior conviction for speeding?

  5. well it is in part but it is also about people having no concept of what
building property is all about, how much it costs and how to plan and
specify their requirements correctly. Oh and how to avoid scope "creep".

I've only watched a few repeats and almost without exception the
"project" goes horrendously wrong and over budget but then it has to in
order to provide the drama for the telly viewers. Some of the houses are
    quite amazing though.

That means they are rather more law-abiding than the average northerner,
    or better at getting away.

I was considering it, as the ole steam-driven PC has still got enough
go in it to run the original UT; so I had a look-see. Having spent 40
minutes being systematically destroyed by sweller's bastard bots I
might give it a miss. I gave it several (many) misses earlier on.

    Arse.

    Oh yes.
I loved the ex-pumping station/waterworks from the last series.

IRA balaclava and sunglasses. Also good for removing your helmet in shops,
    banks etc.

That's the single biggest point that occurred to me in all the
episodes I watched. The cluelessness of the clients wrt keeping a
rein on budgets, allowing for PC costs and managing their building
team came across strongly and just about unanimously. Just like
watching the Star Trek crewman in the red shirt, or the Mark II
Cortina in the Sweeney it was - waiting for something to go fatally
    wrong.
I was gobsmacked by some of the designs - obviously the most
innovative were cherry-picked by the series producers, but some of
them were jaw-dropping. The German timber-framed place was awesome,
as was the work ethic of the construction team. I fucking loved the
other wooden one, built by the eccentric with his own wood, in his own
wood, by his friends and acquaintances.

    "Grand Designs"
    Ho Yuss.

Especially with the planning caveat that said he couldn't sell it. That
place was built by him, for him. Not for profit.

It was fucking brilliant to watch him wander off into the woods with a
chainsaw to get a bit to fit just *there*.

  16. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "platypus"
That one really struck a note with me, seeing as how that's the kind of
thing I'm doing. That place of theirs will be an utter bastard to heat,
    though.

IIRC they had underfloor heating, which is a hell of a lot more effective
for lower energy input: warm feet, cool head. Sorted.

We've got electric underfloor heating in the kitchen, and it 0wns...
