This follows on from a show last night on BBC Scotland, about BAB's.
The usual stuff. Average age 38, high crash rates, mid-life crisis, etc.

Showed an experienced racer who was also an instructor who crashed
during a race at Knockhil, breaking his back - albeit slightly, IYSWIM.

Utter crap - vastly imbalanced, as we'd expect. So now Scotland's
finest are clamping down on bikers to "educate" them.

I copped it as well... complete pish, totally amateur bbc scotland
sensationalistic journalism it would be cheap to produce though.
It was aimed at having the blue rinse scone munching dearies believe that
these fast motorcyclists will have us all burning in hell. No mention of
how many dozy old car driving arseholes are involved in bike incidents or
any other external factors like farmers dumping shite and diesel and my
favourite the councils re-surfacing by dumping tons of gravel and tar all
over the roads and leaving the excess gravel to disperse.
Will the be doing a programme on teenage small car drivers that wrap
themselves round trees and have killed numerous people (passengers,
    pedestrians).
IIRC there have been a spate of inexperienced car drivers either killed or
in court charged with dangerous driving etc.

FFS , so they actively want to encourage road use to become a miserable

Having ploughed through the first 20 odd pages of the report it does make
interesting reading in places. Not so much in the 'stating the bleeding
obvious' department but the underlying attitude of the report writers.

Motorcycling is risky, some people find risk fun, how can we stop
you having fun, we know what's best for you...

If they are miserable, unpleasant people with no life, why shouldn't you
    be.

When we can be arsed to get up off our arses and give the so called policy

Maybe when Labour realise they can't carry on doing wtf they like, safe
in the knowledge it'll all be forgotten come election day.

TBH I think the Safety Nazis will win. All the really big causes of
premature deaths have pretty much been dealt with with[1]. A lot of
what's left is the smaller more personal choice type stuff, and as
technology advances and population control becomes easier so the larger
our loss of personal freedom will be. All in the name of safety or
    security and the 'greater good'.

No matter what you do in life somebody somewhere will want you to stop
    doing it.

You're probably right, but on the other hand these types of 'fringe'
policies only tend to make it to the top of the pile late on during a
term in office, and the potentially unpopular ones only make it at all
if the government are fairly happy they'll have a few more years
    regardless.

In other words, if we keep changing them every four years, they may not
have the time or the inclination to bother with the low priority stuff.
There is, but it involves organisation & effort. Demonstrations,
petitions & letter writing can work with certain issues if enough
people get off their lazy fat arses & do something.

ITYF most of their rambling is done on footpaths, bridleways & RTR
land, not roads. And they're the worst culprits for trying to ban
recreational use of roads anyway - selfish thick fuckers.

  15. The web page says there where 26 bike-related deaths in Lothian over a 4
year period. That seems pretty low to me. And the number of deaths
actually fell by 33% in 2004.

A few years ago I went to rural Kent for a dirty long weekend. A break
with a very simple theme of pleasant little country strolls/pub crawl
during the day, pleasant evening meal back at base and lots and lots and
    lots of sex in between.

It seems that while we were there meandering around the footpaths an
hour or two from our base looking for lunch there was a group of what I
can only describe as "Power Ramblers" going in the opposite direction.

The first time we came across them it really was like something out of
Python. You could feel them coming for miles as the combined force of a
dozen properly shod pairs of feet hit the ground in unison. I thought
it was lost legion of Romans trying to retake Hastings.

After, literally, being driven from the road/path a third time by these
good hearted folk I had a little word with their leader about
selfishness and shit and was also able to put in a few good analogies
about biking to what was a car driving set.

They ain't that thick, they can be made to see reason if you can out
think them which ain't hard ime.

Well, I'm obviously a recidivist, serial offender on that score. But
even I find it hard to produce any sort of reasonable justification
for using the public roads for entertainment.

Didn't some car lobbyists run a go-slow on the M4 the weekend before last
in protest against the speed cameras. I recall hearing something about it
on the news. They were going to drive at 56mph in lanes 1 & 2 for a few
miles and then to the same the other way. I didn't hear anything
    subsequently.
