TBH it was a while before I realised the radio programme was about
impressions. I just thought it was funny.

In this context 'big business' and 'capital' don't mean bigger than
    'small business'.

I don't like it either. What's the point in a /radio/ show with
impressions? Might as well get the real people to send themselves up -
    the listeners wouldn't know.

That would certainly be a start.

Not as daft as "Educating Archie".

A ventriloquist performing on the radio?

The public would never be that easily fooled.

    15 million listeners?

    Ah.

His show was also to give exposure to many up-and-coming stars of the
time including Tony Hancock, Max Bygraves, Harry Secombe, Benny Hill,
Beryl Reid and the 14-year-old Julie Andrews.

Not sure whether he should have been knighted, or deported.

    Heh.

There's not much video stuff encoded for on-demand. We have stuff like
Newsnight and Panorama, but it's pretty much all radio.

TBH I wasn't that impressed with the ACD. John Hurt just doesn't quite
seem right, and he doesn't really seem to have captured the essence.

WS isn't funded by the licence fee, it's separately funded by the
Foreign Office, so it's possibly not the best example.

Could you make a few phone calls, and see if anyone's got a tape...?
I'd still like to see it. I was in hotels without BBCs Three and Four
    the last two Thursdays. Grrrr.

It'll be on BBC2 before long. Pretty much everything they show on BBC Four
turns up on 2 after a while.

Now what you really want to see, right, is Curb Your Enthusiasm.

  19. <AONTL> and the TV news, the ITV version is usually dire by comparison
    although C4 news seems better.

  20. Or visit the US, I turn the idiots lantern on in a hotel room for 1/2
an hour or so just to remind me how poor it could be[1].
