Can't remember. My glance at the TV guide goes like this:
    C4
    BBC2
    BBC1
    ITV1
    Cable stuff

I pretty much only listen to BBC national radio, the vasy majoriy of
    which is R4
Christ, Radio 4 is worth a tenner a month.

On 23 Jan 2004 06:42:42 -0800, (antonye) bored us all
completely to death with wittery prose along the lines of:

I can't complain. I only get the beeb since Rupert "I'm a bastard"
    Murdoch blocked ITV/CH4/CH5.

I'd tend to agree. The beeb may not release stuff as often as the
other channels, but generally it's of better quality, IMO.

But look at all the other stuff the beeb does, like the World Service,
etc, etc. When the BBC is mentioned, everyone in the world knows it
    for the service it provides.

Oh that. Not really that much different from now then? The BBC is
    hardly a small business
    Heh, you managed.

The thing that pisse me off though is that we have no choice. I
*have* to pay the licence, even if I don't watch the channels

You have to pay tax, even if you're not receiving benefits... odd world
    isn't it :)

Not really, the idea of tax being that it benefits society as a whole.
I think claiming that the BBC benefits society as a whole would be
stretching it. And anyway, if it's a tax, call it a fucking tax

I'm in agreement with you again shocker.
I've seen what Sky etc. has to offer at Chez Spete and SteveH. I'd pay
£10/month tops for all the channels. It's a constant remote control fest
trying to find anything worth watching and usually there simply isn't
anything worth watching. Those who have watched TV in the USA will testify
just how bad it could get.

Though I rarely watch it I get pissed with UK commercial TV lately. Ads
appear much more often now and the channels all seem to run ads at the same
    time.

I think that the claim "The BBC benefits society as a whole" is
incredibly easy justify. Just imagine how much worse our culture
    would be without it.

I thought the programme on the Atkins diet last night was pretty good -
first one I've seen that didn't roll
out the "YOU WILL DIE!!" shit.

I have to agree with that. First one I've seen like that (though
there were a couple of wankers, and they continualy misquoted the good
    doctor)

OTOH that is probably the first piece of first run, BBC programmin,
barring the news, that I've enjoyed for about 5 years

This thread has quite conveniently and clearly divided UKRM posters into
two camps: those with a brain, and the fucking proles.

... and so turn the BBC into another Murdoch agenda generator? Sounds
bit like the bath water just left with the entire population under the
    age of 12 months.

I think the BBC rocks. But then again i *not* British.

It's not perfect by a long way but it is light years away from the
    rest.

The BBC website certainly is good, but don't forget
that anyone from around the world can view it, so
effectively it's not just for the licence payer.

I don't listen to radio that much at all, except the
odd night while in the bath and it's usually R4.
Again, you don't actually need the TV licence to
listen to the radio, although you would probably
have to be in the UK.

Certainly some interesting responses in the thread.
I agree that they knock out a good documentary now
and then, but switching on to BBC1 tonight it's
Only Fools and Horses *again* for fucks sake.

[and I wasn't picking on you in particular Ben, it's
just that you're the last poster in the thread atm!]

Panorama this week BBC vs No 10.
    Nope can't get them.
R1 in the evenings, R4 or BBC Essex in the morning. R5 for the oz
    cricket etc.
Yes, in fact i'd pay twice that and still consider it a bargain.
