Some sealed batteries are ..really really sealed. ie ultrasonic/etc
welded shut once charged with gel/liquid.
    Best not pry them apart.

The " do not open" is a good indicator that it can and should be
opened up to check no plates are uncovered.

  2. Feeling pretty good now overall. How did I tangle with the armco?
Easy, the road turned right and I didn't because I was having a
nap(microsleep) at the time. I woke just as I was about to hit the
fence. Basically the result of two nights without much sleep. Was on
the way home from a night camping at Yerranderie. Only doing about
70kmh at the time. I was intending to take a break but was riding with
a mate and he was busting a gut to get home, my fault.

We were there(BMFF) from Fri night through to Sunday, bloody wet.

Know what you mean. I tried doing Syd-Cairns in three days back in
'83. Nearly died three times doing microsleeps. Woke up on the wrong
side of the road on each occasion. Very Scary. But I was
unbelievably lucky each time. Otherwise I wouldn't be here writing
    this.
Yeah, the mud. I wore boots. Good thing I did. But I had a good
    time.

    Can't say I've ever experienced a microsleep whilst riding...driving
cars..yes but not riding. The thought of a microsleep whilst riding
scares me even more than in a car.

Staying on-topic, attach wires from battery (via appropriate trigger
device and ramped up volts) to testicles. Fear of fried bits may
    banish microsleeps.

I have realised I was riding along with my eyes closed thinking how
nice it was to relax that way.

    I don't think that's a microsleep as such, but it certainly isn't
    recommended!

Linked, no doubt, to an eye monitor inside the helmet which detects
    drowsiness..

No, but it's far less likely. When electrical stuff burns, the stuff that
burns becomes conductive quite rapidly, thus adding to the burning. This
extra conductivity is also very highly likely to create an electrical path
to Earth. The best way to stop an electrical fire is to turn off the power.
The 30ma RCD is more likely to shut down the power than the 16a circuit
    breaker.

So yes, you can still have an electrical fire. But at least 95% of
electrical fires happen in places that don't have RCDs.

Have you pressed the 'test' button lately?

Only happened to me once when I was (considerably) younger. Riding the
T150V Trident home from my honeymoon camping in Cornwall. Had a massive
dental abscess, no sleep for a few days and full of codeine. Fell asleep
on the motorway at around 70mph in the middle of the night. Woke up by
the new bride punching me in my kidneys (sets the scene for the next 13
    years :)

Best part was the dick-head security guard telling me we couldn't sleep
in the services area car park because it "wasn't allowed" and that I
should keep riding and get off the motorway. I declined his suggestion
and fell (literally) asleep at the side of the bike.

Don't do that unless you know how to set the clock on the VCR. You
still have one of those don't you?

Yes. Mine says "Test Monthly" on it, as I think they all do, but I probably
only do it four times a year, when I think of it. The test button acts as a
xx ma leakage path, so it's a real life test. They fail in two ways. If it
doesn't trip, replace it. If it trips and you can't reset it, same thing.
I've had one fail in the shed in the latter fashion. Yes, the shed sub-board
    has to have one too.

The alternative test method is to stick a knife in the toaster, spill water
on the cordless kettle base, vacuum up that spilt glass of water, cut the
cord on your power tool with the saw/cutting disc/drill, etc.

No, I assumed you would understand that the power would go off when you
pressed the teat button and could deal with that. I know my wife can't set
the clock on the wall oven.

If you are afraid to leave a battery charger on overnight you wont be able
to sleep until you press that test button. And you should.

Yes, sorry. I tried to restrict my scenarios only to the most common.
There's been a furore here in the West for a while because an indigenous
child died after crawling into a hole in the wall of the family home (???)
and touching a live wire. The Opposition had a field day castigating the
Gov't over the affair as they had a retrofit program for RCDs in Public
Housing. After some investigation and a few weeks it turns out that an
electrical contractor had signed off on fitting one to this house, and
presumably billed the Dept. No device was fitted. Nobody appears willing to
explain how or why there was a hole through the wall.

Result, one dead child and somebody going to be sued for million$.
    <sigh>

I've found that there's usually a power surge when the teat button is
    properly pressed...

Look, I had to say "pressed" to stay within the parameters of the
    story, OK?

Nipped, nibbled, licked, sucked... whatever... I'm almost too old to
remember... As it was I had to ask the chick behind the counter at
the supermarket to refresh my memory...
