Battery charge

Discussion in 'Motorbike Technical Discussion' started by Alec Short \(V\), Dec 27, 2003.

  1. Hi,
I have been unable to take my bike out over the last couple of weeks and the
battery is now almost flat. It has a Selca MT8 alarm attached to it - is it
safe to charge the battery all connected up ? If not, will I need to
re-programme the alarm once the battery has been disconnected ?

    Thanks very much - S

    My opinion: Yes and Probably

I don't know what kind of bike you have and I've never heard of that brand
of alarm. If it's the kind of thing that needs programming and it doesn't
have an auxillary source to keep it powered up in the event of an outage,
then it will likely need resetting. My bike has an outlet that I use to
give it a monthly boost during the winter months in order to keep the
    battery up.

As long as you use charger like the optimate then you can charge without
disconnecting. The alarm should reprogram itself when you reconnect the
battery and press the remote a couple of times. You may nee to set up the
user settings again if the alarm has them.

I have a friends GSXR600 in the garage that sits on an optimate all the time
    and it is alarmed
