So I got a short break today and was gonna take the bike for a spin, but
the battery was dead. Took it out, discovered it was WAY low on water. I
figure this battery is toast, but it's on the charger and seems to be
    taking a charge.

Only the second time it's been run down to nothing, but it's two years
old, and two years seems to be about as good as it gets for batteries
for me in any vehicle, so I'm leaning towards replacing it anyway. What
    say ye, oh learned ones?

Also, just out of curiosity, has anyone ever used one of those jump
starter things that plugs into a cigarette lighter on their bike?

The 2 year service you are getting for 'any' vehicle needs to be looked
into. Of the vehicles I've dealt with only PWC's had a short 2 year battery
life. Some Honda m/c owners I know have had 5 year battery life.
Are you operating these vehicles often? Can you check you charging output?
Do you buy a specific brand of battery? Is Jerry siphoning your juice?

Corroded battery/ground connections sometime allow current out for starting,
lights, etc. but will not allow proper charging. Clean'um.

We can clear this problem up for you Biffy, if you stick with us here a bit.
I suspect something within your charactistics. Remember constructive
    criticism is sometimes constructive.
No, and I do not like that procedure at all. It is way too poor people.

Well, the average HAS seemed to increase since I stopped buying
batteries from Autozone. My batteries get a lot of "city" type driving
on them. Frequent starts, short trips. Kids who leave the interior
    lights on. Stuff like that.
No corrosion on the bike battery.
Yes, I am sure this is due to a weakness in my constitution.
It seems like a bad idea to me, I was just curious. Always looked like a
good way to make a whole bunch of stuff under the dash to start smoking.

Louies batterys last so long because he keeps his conditioned. That
seems to provide long battery life. The way you achieve this is to
turn your key on or to park and walk away. Go read the newsgroup or go
visit Harbor Freight for a few hours. That should drain your battery
enough that your bike wont start. Hook up a battery charger to bring
battery back up to full charge and you have conditioned your battery
    for long lasting life.

Bring that motor to Louies and we will weld you one on. It will
increase the value of your bike having 1 add on.

When's Louie's next maintenance day? I got the battery charged and the
oil changed, next up is brakes and a valve adjustment. Those frighten me
a little. I may need someone to hold my hand.

==yep. Up on Willamena mtn. They had one at the Lodge,it got mine
started, I had left the key on. When I got home, I purchased one, and
have used it numerous times, around the Farm.
