  2. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
    The anti-smoking Nazis strike again.

You know I had somehow forgotten August's little off - probably because it
    wasn't my fault.

You also left out putting it in a ditch on the BOTAFOT one month into
    'proper' biking.

In fairness (to me and tempting fate) I haven't thrown a bike down the road
(without outside help) in just under 3 years - the last one being the
    aforementioned red traffic light.

I did? News to me. Either I'm so hard that I shrug off bins or you're
    confused. Gimme details.
Yeah but I bet you wanted to.

It *may* have something to do with an incident involving an icy slip road ,
a sideways hornet and a fortuitously open warehouse door last winter.

That's reminded me of a boss who objected to 4 (or maybe 5) of us car
sharing - if we had an accident then he could have lost 20 percent of
his staff in one go. He never actioned this objection but did voice it
    quite clearly.

Do you think this (money) is the same motivation for drug testing in
    the armed forces then?

I'm pretty sure our board aren't all supposed to get on the same plane.

As a matter of interest how does this affect you viz a viz stuff like
secondary smoking? I mean, how long could you breath the air round here
of an evening before you were at danger of losing your job?

In the case of the armed forces their success is not measured in LSD (for
the want of a better pun) but the requirement to manage and minimise
exposure to risk is still there.

I'm reliably informed that secondary smoking is detectable and can be
interpreted as such because there is such a marked difference between it
    and 'primary' smoking.

Similarly codeine tablets initially give a positive for cocaine but the
testing staff can readily tell the difference between the two.

The point where secondary smoking becomes primary is blurred but would
require a high concentration and prolonged exposure. Realistically, a
lot more than an evening with you in your living room.

My current empolyer will not allow more than 5 employees on the same
plane. I believe this is actually a stipulation of the insurers and not
    the company itself though.

Crap, though. But there is a crossover point[1] where bike mileage is
    better than car mileage.

[1]I calculated it, but the figures are in work somewhere. About 388 miles
    in a day, I think.

If my company was in the line of work yours is, then I would expect the
    same.

    We're not, therefore I don't :)

    dwb says...
Some reps from other companies in this trade are discouraged from going
to work on their bikes, or positively banned from doing so. There are
also a high number of MDs of bike related companies who've never ridden
a bike and have no desire to.

I met up with the Richa/Oxtar (Nevis Marketing) rep today, and we rode
back from Romford round the M25 together in rush hour. He was on a BMW
K1200RS. So it's not just me that was mad enough to voluntarily go out
all day in the pissing rain.

I'm still driving a company 2.2 petrol and can claim that for the
    bike.... until the diseasel arrives.
