    <shit jap accent>
    For past five days, HooDoo Optimate charger had orange right on in
    morning. IT USUALLY GREEN!!! HooDoo know batteries don't hold
    cheeaarge in very cold weather, but ...

    Is it:
    a) Cold Weather Conundrum?
    b) Battery Buggered?
    or
    c) Charger Challenged?

    Place bets, Now!

    Cold Weather? Battery? Charger?
    Conundrum? Buggery? Callenge?

    Weather? ... Battery? ... Charger?

    </sja>

    p.s. Bike starts OK. I just wondered if I was due to fork out for a
    new battery soon?
    p.p.s. Bike & battery are both two years' old.
    p.p.p.s. It's a sealed battery.

    Cheers

    I hate to tell you this, but your charger is displaying the well known "Bike
    Knackered" orange. The only course of action is to scrap the bike. The good
    news is you should be able to use the charger with your new bike.

    Will I be able to use the battery, too?

    Fraid not. You'll have to burn all your biking gear as well.

    If I do this near the bike, do you think it will get warm enough to
    give me a green light on the Optimate?

    Its worth a try.

    Also from the optimate website:

    ORANGE - Recovering LED will light when all correct connections are made as
    long as the battery voltage is above 2 Volts. If the battery is very flat
    (deep-discharged or sulphated) the orange LED may continue to indicate for
    up to 2 hours while a special high voltage (22v max) is applied to force a
    very small fixed current (200mA) into the battery in a recovery attempt.
    After 2 hours max, or, as soon as the battery can accept the normal charging
    programme, (which for most batteries will occur immediately on connection)
    the orange recovering LED will be replaced by the yellow charging LED.

    WTF is Thankgls?

    FWIW I would wait and see if the battery picks up after the current cold
    snap.
