Motorcyle parts centre in Reading has some so I'll take a trip out there in
    a bit.

What's wrong with Banditmania by the way?

    eh?

On second looks it's worse than I thought.. I was hoping I could put some
patches over the holes but the collector side tube totaly disintegrated when
I took the silencer pipe off :-(

So that's either a fix up job from banditmania or replace the down pipe
bits, the silencer part I could probably repair given 20 mins with the
welder though. Just phoned a breakers actaully and they got one so will
toodle off up there. Not cheap but it'll get it sorted pdq.

hmm the screen on this faired bandit here appears to be ok (at the moment)
I haven't thrown any spanners around the garage yet though!

This one is what erm 9 years old, a new motad one is £160 ish I think (going
by my 2002 part book!) a s/h one from breakers is £100.. I'm loathed to pay
that much but I need this bike going like yesterday. Tank in the right
colour for £80 so I'll have one of those two - maybe they'll have a nice end
    can too :)

What a bugger getting all the exhaust bolts out.. A combination of tools was
required. A long allen key and hammer to get the bolts to receive a bit as
they were a little corroded. I used a 18" bar and 6mm hex bit in a socket
for the outside 2 and inside two. The 2 next to the frame I couldn't get a
socket in cus the frame was in the way so used the bit from the socket with
an 8mm spanner over the shaft of the short bit, I then extended that to get
enough torque on it. I obviously gave the bolts a hard wack to break any
    rust on the thread first.

I'm totally amazed at the fact I got them all out without rounding a single
    one :)

They have a bit of a rep on the Bandit Owners Group forum. They
allegedly punt out poor quality tat at premium prices, won't take
responsibility when something they've recommended and sold falls apart
or doesn't work properly, that sort of thing ... and they charge 80
quid to weld in a repair patch to an exhaust. Allegedly.

    How much!?

It is enough to make a man consider enrolling for welding evening
    classes.

It's easy enough to teach yourself. helps if you have a few pointers though
and plenty of natural talent :) Putting plates over things or replacing a
bit of flat metal is very easy, replacing odd shapes is harder but once
you've learnt a few tricks its still pretty straight forward.

Well, it is for a stainless steel patch, plus a man to do it. Say a
tenner for materials and an hour to prep and do the job, including a
break for tea and a fag. Nice work if you can get it.

I had my collector done by Banditmania last year. Sent by Parcel Force
(20.60 UKP) Wed evening back with me Friday morning. Came back with new
header gaskets, header bolts, clamp[1] and heatshield[1]. Banditmania
    cost: 86.75 UKP.

It was expensive but I was pleased with the speed of turnaround which
was the most important thing at the time. They don't just weld a patch
on, they cut off all the mild steel (well, what's left of it) and
molish a new ss piece to replace it.

Today I fitted a new end can as that had rusted away where it meets the
collector. This came from eBay for 20 UKP and it's already had the
Banditmania ss treatment, so a bargain by comparison.

Actually while I'm here... Should I have use exhaust paste when
assembling the join? I've used a new gasket but I'm not sure if it's
    sealed correctly.

[1] Which rusted to **** over the last year for some reason.
[2] Shiny bit that sits in the clamp and hides then join. That is until
it pings off on the M5 one day.

BTDT. I took the clamp off and found the only connection between the
collector and end can was proximity.

already called - I'll pop by tomorrow at about 7 to pick em up.

Got a new tank but the place I got it from who also said the zorst they had
was 'ok' was crap so I left it there..... I had decided to take zorst off to
weld up the little holes and the whole middle bit disintegrated :-( I'm
hoping I can get a link pipe from somewhere then weld thatr onto the headers
and make the original into a slip on and also get a race slip on too.. just
trying to find the best palce to get one (read cheap).

The new tank has a dent in it, hopefully it doesn't leak though. Can you
get a colour match for it Owen?

The faring is being removed peice by peice for no other reason than I'm
curious what the little switch on the handle bars does, it looks jsut like a
heated grip switch that comes with oxford grips, but the grips are heine
gericke ones and have the heine gericke switch.. very odd!

I suppose they're not too bad, all things considered. I definitely
don't see much use of indicators on the 78 billion roundabouts though.

maybe not on the little ones but I tend to find all the big ones most people
seem to know what that little stalk sticking outside the steering wheel is
for.. Whereas up this end of the country an indicator is used to say "I'm
chaning lanes in about .3 of a pico second get out of the way".. Or "I've
illegally taken the wrong lane up the outisde of the traffic I'm now going
to cut back in, and yes my BMW does have indicators." ;-)
