    Hi,

I went to look at a Bandit 600 this evening (with a view to buy) and the
bloke selling it told me that the speedo pick-up on the front sprocket had
had one of the four 'things' broken off, so the speedo was now only ready
    3/4 of the true speed.

Is this something which is easily and cheaply fixed?

    Cheers.

Stonge was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Matey is selling the bike without fixing this.

    Draw your own conclusions.

Why would it have been picked up at the MOT? AFAIR speedos are not a
    testable item.

It may have been defective since shortly after delivery.

The bloke claims to have snapped it last week whilst changing the front
    sprocket.

It's an easy job to replace the unit: it just required the removal of
    the front wheel.

IIRC A brand new unit cost about £40 (a year and a half ago)

    hang on....

No, as you were. I thought I might still have the remains of my old one
in the cellar. It seems I finally got round to throwing it out.

If you get one with a bent clutch lever, though...
