If the bearings were _that_ loose, the races are probably stuffed
anyway, best to replace them entirely. May as well use tapered rollers
    while you're at it anyway.

if you have one of the bearings left, take it to a push bike shop...
they seem to carry lose balls

If you've still got some to measure, take them to either a bicycle shop
or a bearing supplier. They're usually the same size for both top and
    bottom bearings.

Have a good look at the bearing surfaces before you put it back
together though, if it was rattly for a while you'll probably have
pitted or scored bearing cups/cones, and they'll need replacement. In
that case a bearing shop will probably be able to give you suitable
tapered rollers if you take the old cups & cones in for them to
measure. Motorbike shops usually have sets of tapered rollers in stock
and a book to look up your bike model, but you pay a fair bit more for
    the convenience (~$40?)
