Bad Karma Day, and questions...

  1. Today has been a BAD karma day...

a: Someone tried to steal my VFR, again. They didn't succeed today
(for a change), but they still managed to royally fubar the
    steering/ignition lock.

If the lock can't be fixed, its going to be a good $300+ in
parts for the repair, because a full lock set is needed unless I want
    different keys floating around.

But at least I have new plastic (finally) to replace the stuff
trashed by the last thief, so I'll just pay the extra and have the
dealer put it on when evertihng else is being fixed.

b: My girlfriend dropped HER bike. The right turn signal light got
shattered, and the right turnsignal light broke. Fortunatly, she
wasn't hurt, but still, her precious baby is now scuffed and a bit
uglified. But we can repair her, we have the technology!

    The questions:

1: Online place/good local dealer to order a replacement turnsignal
and a replacement side fairing (it's scratched pretty bad, but small
enough so the part cost should'nt be too bad) for a VStrom 650 from?

2: The front brakes apparently took some air in them (probably
squeezed them as she tipped over, forcing air in) and are now really
mushy. I'm going to try the trick of zip-tying the front brake lever
down overnight and see if the bubble works itself out, but if not, I'm
going to have to bleed them.

Where's the best place to get some PVC tubing (home despot?) for
    putting on the bleed nipple?

    3: Anyone know where to order a set of 2-4 keyed-alike padlock-style
disklocks (kryptonite)? Having 4 locks all with the same key would be
VERY useful: Disklock, cable to support, disklock on her bike, etc.

  2. Open covered parking lot in the apartment complex (gated).
Unfortunatly, we are too close to the bad part of Richmond, and the
area IS visible from the street (I'm going to see about moving spaces
    on monday).

I suspect it was some local punk (there are lots riding around on
those gas powered scooters and 50cc minibikes) who thought it would be
cool to take a motorcycle out for a joyride and who hopped the fence.
If it was even a remotely competent thief, he would have succeeded in
breaking the steering lock and starting the bike.

And a remotely competent thief wouldn't take a bike as UGLY as my
spraypainted-black-and-scratched-up (the results of a previous
    moron-thief) as mine.

I've now started chaining the bike up to the post for covering the
parking spots, make the amatures know that they really aren't going to
    get it.

Weird...my 'hood is infested with those little powered scoots and
minibikes too. Usually some shave head kid with barely enough
testosterone to raise a wee fuzz of hair on his upper lip. I guess they
don't bother my bike cuz they have to walk down a long driveway...plus,
there's that mysterious red blinking LED light...what could it be?

oh no....the TECH! look just kiss the boobo spots that will work.
a stock turn signal will cost you three times as much as the after market
ones the dealer carries on his parts racks.
you have to send to Hungary for that.

call disc loc they will be able to fix you up.

You may need a silent alarm that pages you if the bike is tampered with.

find a good locksmith to replace the tumblers and use the "$300+" to buy a
camera and 24hr vhs recorder at Fry's.

http://www.ronayers.com/ has pretty good prices for Kawi / Honda /
    Suzuki.
I tried that on the 7R... It didn't really help at all. Good luck
bleeding the Honda linked brakes... Maybe time to convert the bike to a
    non-linked system?
    I got some at Kragen.
Try sending an email or calling the contact info at
    http://www.kryptonitelock.com/ ?

  8. THanks. Sent query.
It was the Vstrom, not the honda. The bubble worked itself out, and
the brakes are fine again. It was probably just inside the line.

But I went over to a friend's house anyway to install the Motech
centerstand for it. Boy, the Vstrom with motech centerstand is so
easy to get up on the centerstand. Wow.
