Bad dealer experience

Let me tell you a tale of my recent experience with a dealer. Let's call
    them Inskip Motorcycles at Toronto...

Friday: Go to dealer as a web search tells me they have what I want.
Speak to salesman, salesman inspects my current bike, makes offer as
trade, I accept. I order accessories for new bike and go home believing
all is well and it'll be ready to pick up in a few days when the extras
    have been fitted. ($4100 changeover)

Monday: Phone rings. The message is that they made an error in the
trade-in valuation AND onroad costs to the tune of $2000, but being nice
guys they ask me to pay only an extra $1000. ($5100 changeover)

Monday afternoon: I go to shop and speak to salesman and owner. Advised
by Steve Inskip to leave it with him and he'll see if he can work
something out - will call tomorrow.

    Tuesday lunchtime: I give up waiting and call them. Owner not there;
    he'll call back.

Tuesday PM: Salesman calls - owner has thought about it and decided the
trade-in was overvalued even more (he has NEVER seen the bike) and the
    changeover will now be $7000!

I'll leave you to guess what I think of this place...

Talk about a kick in the guts... so no new scooter after all.

On the Friday, didn't you sign a contract to buy the bike and trade in
your existing bike at an agreed price?

If you signed a contract it should be binding on both parties.

Regrettably no... I had gone home to discuss it and make a decision and
rang them to confirm I'd go ahead with it. They are 50 minutes ride
    away...

They got the name from the holden car which is considered a limo in
    that area.

Ross, I commiserate with your bad experience, but you were dealing with a
salesman, who are at best are only looking after their own interests and not
actively trying to shaft you. Most are not at their best except on the
second full moon of the month and that's when they have their day off.
And I agree wholeheartedly with your definition of a gentleman.

Hiya Ross; long time no hear!

Yep; that's bullshit. Lucky you learnt about them before you gave them your
    money 'eh?

The internet's a big place; sure you'll probably have to ride down to Sydney
(or up to Port Mac) but definitely let your keyboard do the walking and take
    your business elsewhere.

    Hey Clem, how're doing?

You can be sure I've spread the word as far as I can, and I hope the
kama finds it's way back to them some day.

It's on record with the Office of Fair Trading too...

    Anyone want to buy a '95 ST1100?
