I just pull the clutch in and coast...

Which is fine for a few seconds, but I'm talking about perhaps a
minute or more while I give the right arm a rest, by which time I'd
have coasted almost to a standstill.

Ah. DIY cruise control. I've wondered about that, but it worries me.

On the old airhead boxers, there's a tapped hole in the R/H switch housing
that takes a screw that bears onto the twistgrip. I would set this to only
just keep the throttle open, and it was fab, over many thousands of miles.
No cramps, no scary moments, and the R/H fuel tap was suddenly much more
    accessible at speed.

I just give the wingnut a twist on the hoseclamp around the end of the
    throttle.

It's done many thousands of miles on the Tig without any problems. I
just cut a couple of slits in the throttle tube going in about an inch
from the edge, so when you squeeze the tube it grips the bar. The
hoseclip has a big plastic wingnut so it's easy to use with gloves. It
normally lives on the end-weight, & I just slide it onto the end of the
grip as required. Half a twist makes the throttle stiff enough to stay
where you set it, but you can still open or close it easily enough.

I've got thick squishy foam grips on the Tig which may help with its
effectiveness. Can't see why it wouldn't work with normal grips,
although it might need to be tighter to compress the rubber if they're
quite thick. On the other hand, if the end of the grip is slightly proud
of the end-weight, you may be able to position it across the gap to hold
it rather than compressing the throttle tube. That doesn't work with the
    foam grips though.

That'll mean he has to get it going, so he can ride it to somewhere with
    double yellow lines, yes?

Des, have a look underneath the R/H switch housing for a tapped hole, maybe
with a plastic bung in it. I don't know if the Ks have this, but they
    /might/.

    ....and failed.

RH fork seal. I think there's a pair in the tool chest.

    That's tonight's entertainment sorted, then.

It wasn't leaking when I left home, honest.

    Top Tip for weight watchers.

Ride a 500cc air-cooled two-stroke round London for half an hour. You
can feel the pounds fall off. In pints.

By Gawd, it needs some revs to get moving. Then again, I appear to
have got rid of the excess oil in the exhausts, now. :)

It really does zing along quite nicely with >6k on the tacho.

I are mostly RBRing round Jockland next week.
Does it buggery. Well, it does stop enough to pass an MOT, but not
well enough to generate any confidence.

Chris the MOT man had much fun nailing it up and down the road outside
the workshop, mind. Definitely no spiders hiding up the exhausts by
the time he'd finished with it. Oh, no.

No myth - plentiful examples abound. The factory fitted reg/rec was
knife-edge specced and couldn't handle anything less than a perfect
battery and spotlessly clean connections. If these conditions weren't
met, it fried itself and often took the similary knife-edged alternator
    out at the same time.

Superdream reg/rec and rewound alt with a decent battery pretty much
    made it solid.

Oh yes, throw away the useless tool tray and mount it on the upper
forward bit of the rear mudguard under the seat. Not much wetness there,
but plenty of air. Snooperdream reg/recs were much better anyway and
didn't seem to suffer from overheating.
