On Thu, 05 Aug 2004 14:38:33 GMT, AndyH I think I grabbed the clutch first, then brakes, let off the clutch (because of the rev's) which is when I lost it, but it all happened very very very quick. Clutch then kill switch would have done a better job. More open road I would have let it go on and thought before acting, but on a small estate road with parked cars, a downhill bend and prospects of a car coming the other way I just tried to stop it too quick. -- AndyH, MIB#15 Suz GSX1100F {) Suz GS550 Katana '82 Black Suz GS550 Katana '84 Silver (in kit form) MZ ETZ125 (and still in bits) CG125 (Son's, but its still in my garage)

Get to an optician [1] [2] tomorrow and get them to have a look at it. Will only take about 20 minutes, cost 15UKP and give you peace of mind. [1] Boots are good. They generally have good opticians. You should be able to walk in off the street for a test. [2] Presuming that the doctors in A&E didn't look at it. -- Nursey RN ALS Provider OSOS#25 MIRTTH#6 IbW#09 4#COFF EFFA MOP#1 Honda Deauville (NTV650-V) (Mine) Tweenies Trike (Caitlin's) UKRM FAQ: http://www.ukrm.net/faq/
It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember AndyH Yeah, right. Those engine protection bars really worked, I see. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Dr Ivan D. Reid If you were moving then really, really, REALLY, don't do this. Trust me. Really. Don't.
I tried it once, on a push bike[0]... it all went pear-shaped in pretty short order. But... wouldn't a motorbike be more stable than a push bike, and thus less likely to get itself confused as a result of your back-to-front steering inputs? Any volunteers? I *know* it's possible, but I'm wondering how difficult it is. [0] Not for the clutch, obviously, just riding along and decided that I should try swapping hands.
Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Eddie Me too. Interesting hypothesis. Who would be stupid enough to test it? Oi! Blaney! Little proposition for you mate.

I had a couple of 550s and a 1000 (that was truly fucked mind) and found they handled really, really well in comparison with other contemporary Japs I had. Never had any reg/rec problems. I suspect it was a bit of a myth - in the same way Guzzi electrics are woeful.
<Steps forward> I've ridden more than a couple of miles down the M6/M5 with my hands crossed (Well, right hand by side, left hand on throttle). A bunch of us were trying it on the way back from the Isle of Man in the small hours one time. You do have to concentrate quite hard, and *very* consciously think about which way you want to push the bars. I just about made it through the big curves on the M5 above Birmingham (by J2/3)
<lock, stock and two smoking barrels mockney accent> Can everyone please stop getting hurt <lsatsbma>
I've done it a few times on the trumpet and the gixxer, reaching over with my left hand to hold the throttle for a minute while I stretch my right arm and shoulder. Yes, it's a bit twitchy and you need to know what you're doing wrt countersteering, but with a little practice it's not too difficult.
