Yesterday: Starter on Katana wouldn't engage, so push started it, to
get to work. XP on PC at work wouldn't let me log in, it took 3 hours
to fix. After work starter still not engaging, so push started again.

Got home and replaced starter with one off spare engine. Tried to do
it without removing carbs, but snapped my small spanner, so had to
take the carbs off. 5 hours later and its all back together ready for
    the test drive.

Set off slowly in 1st, in to 2nd, throttle became stiff then freed off
ending fully open, and it stayed fully open. Parked cars, narrow
road, downhill bend, cow muck, wet, would off hit at least 40mph, but
probably more like 60mph. Lost the back end, then the front and down
    the road I went.

Bike reeving its head off, couldn't get up, dark shadow over my left
eye, plenty of helpfully neighbors. Women: "Do you want an Ambulance"
A blokes reply: "No, just some clean under pants". Shadow went from
eye after about 10mins, so drove myself to hospital.

6 hours in A&E, fractured elbow, road rash to knee, tattooing my knee
with denim, cow shit and tarmac, which had to be scrubbed out.

1st time I have lost control of a bike, it had to happen. Luckily
nothing coming up the road at the time.

Jubilee clip on the card had turned around and was catching on the
    throttle linkage. Ars!

    Few pics here:

Sorry, none of my knee, its well bandaged at the moment.

    You clumsy fucker.

That's what the kill switch is for, by the way.

You're right, doesn't look like too much dammage. Hope you and the bike
fix quickly. That dark shadow thing sounded a bit strange though. :/

Unlucky, but as Nigel says, you should have tried the kill switch.
Difficult to think at the time though, but maybe if it happens
    again...
I'm confused. From the couple of shots of the bike that are there it
looks like a bog-standard GS - unless my memory's totally fucked the
Katanas were them with the funky angular nose fairing, tank and
panels. How come you're calling it a Katana?

Ooops and arse, Still could have been worse.
The 650 Katana was a sort of 'Katana lite' with a kat like seat and tank
unit but without the fairing and clocks of the big ones.

  15. Sorry to hear that mate, recommend a nice hot bath and a good bottle of
    whisky.

How come you didn't pull in the clutch or hit the killswitch? Brakes
    might've helped too...

That's just the GS750/1000 and all their descendents, not particularly
the Katana, which were just pig-ugly futuristic versions thereof.

Hah. Only 2 bikes in mine ATM. It'll either be a motard or old sprots
    bike next. Decisions, decisions.

  20. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember AndyH
The first time that happens, you forget all about the killswitch or ign
switch. The second time you know exactly where both are.

Gws you silly sod; honestly, some folk shouldn't be let loose with a
    spanner.
