Looks like I'm going to be elsewhere following another death in the family. BTW, it's snowing. -- Dan L Too much time to think, too little to do. http://thebikeshed.spaces.live.com/ 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005/6/7) X-FOT#000 DIAABTCOD #26 BOMB#18 (slow) OMF#11
Did that on Saturday, big mistake. Totally packed with fat lobotomized sheep, took ages to park, massive queues for every eating place and all the shops crammed. I'm going to the gym.
Oh dear... <click.... whirrr, click .... whirr> Looks like the brew and buttie venue has changed to my garage.
Is that a whirr which sounds like the starter motor spinning but not turning the engine? If so... it's the sprague clutch thing which is a pain if it needs to be replaced- it's a gearbox and clutch off job. It's often caused by using too thick an oil in cold weather- i.e. 20w50 rather than 10w40. Here's what I find has helped; 1. Rock the bike in gear to move the engine over slightly- don't know why it works, sometimes it does. 2. Once started add some engine flush to the oil (of some description) and run for 20 miles or so. 3. Replace oil with a diesel spec (high detergent) oil- make sure it's a 10w40 and not a 20w50. Good luck.
wrote in message Bad form and all that... One other thing that I've noticed seemed to help it was pulling the starter motor out and cleaning/replacing the brushes/commutator. If the brushes are worn replace them since all the earthing (seems) to be through the starter and strange things happen when these are fucked- like not having *any* lighting.
Rocking the bike in gear *ding* sorted. I'll take a look at the starter, rebuilding starters / replacing brushes is something I've done in the past. Ta again.
We stopped there for some warm togs on the way back from Chimay. I just assumed it was some kind of huge genetic experiment. It made Castle Court Belfast look like a well dressed Mensa meeting.
I was trying my hardest to avoid throwing the CBR into a gravel trap at Rockingham, I just about managed it. **** it was cold, and getting your knee down when there's snow flakes just lightly landing on your visor is a surreal experience. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
heh. Remember that race meeting you helped me with at Mallory this time last year? -- Champ ZX10R | GPz750turbo | GSX-R 600 racer My advice as your attorney is to buy a motorcycle To email me, neal at my domain should work.
It was a bit like that, only there weren't the golf ball sized hail stones coming in horizontally....that happened at Mallory on Saturday. I didn't even bother getting into my leathers[1] on that day. Rockingham's weird, it's virtually flat with no features to speak of so judging braking and turning in points was difficult. I'm sure there's a racing line there, but I was damned if I coud find it cos nothing really flowed. We used the International circuit which takes you through the infield and then onto the outer oval and back infield again - the bumps where the two circuits meet are horrendous and I dug my left toe in hard going onto the oval at one point when my suspension compressed quite hard. The surface was cold all day and I struggled to get a decent amount of heat in the tyres, which gave me a couple of minor slides on the two right handers just as you come off the oval. In its defence, Rockingham has lots of left handers and my shiny new sliders are shiny no more. Silverstone GP next Monday. You're not wrong. It was SWMBO's uncle's turn this time, quite sudden it was. -- Dan L Too much time to think, too little to do. http://thebikeshed.spaces.live.com/ 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005/6/7) X-FOT#000 DIAABTCOD #26 BOMB#18 (slow) OMF#11
actually, it wasn't nearly as bad as expected - we headed out pretty early, and the place was 1/2 empty when we got there. It was approaching it's usual mong-quotient by the time we left (1:30 or so), mind. It is a rather pointless place, as there's really nothing there that isn't on the standard issue British High Street these days. I hope they've got it out of their system now.
