B12s are really rather good......

    From what I can tell the people who buy them keep them. You'll
    sometimes see 1100's up for sale, but less so with the bikini faired
    12's.

    I'm glad I didn't buy a 1/2 faired one now as well, it's not at all the
    same experience.

    Oh bloody hell yes. It's not the world's fastest bike; it's not even
    in the top 10 best handling. What it does is go from bimble to thrash
    in less time than it takes to say "Bandit 12". Torque is cheap.

    A faired B12 is on my "test ride" list for this year. They're not the
    most expensive of bikes and the paintwork does appear to be a bit too
    cheap but with the money one has saved by buying it can easily be
    invested in a host of inexpensive 3rd party aftermarket components
    like a decent set of anchors to throw off the back, different shocks
    and the like. I suppose it's a popular budget litre-bike that one can
    do as little or much to as one wishes.

    Just my 2p's worth.

    Although I still reckon buying the B12 was the best thing I ever did,
    I still miss my old B6. There was just something right about it;
    thrashing it to v. high revs was bloody great fun and didn't feel too
    scary. Thrashing the B12 to v. high revs is also fun, but brings
    about thoughts of incipient mortality...

    I've tried two.

    I personally found them to be a bit over-rated, and not my cup of tea at
    all.

    Try a Fazer 600 if you're after no frills fun - I bought one straight after
    the last testride of a B12 I had, and bar the pants headlight, found it to
    be much more what I want from a bike.

    Got to concur. After riding the GSX Thou and B12 back to back, i'm
    afraid the GSXR has rather ruined me for all other steeds :)

    But I have other plans re: work and an alternative change of bikes, so
    the Gixxer is gonna have to wait a mite longer :/

    Indeed not. Despite that, or perhaps because of it, it's still fun to
    ride. I have to state at this point I've never ridden a proper
    sportsbike, so my viewpoint may be slightly skewed.

    They are rather good fun. I added a side mount sprint damper to this B12
    and life is a bit more stable now.

    well, yes. It's also the reason I rode mine into a cornfield on the
    first day I bought it, having got on it straight from riding an
    SZR660.
    I imagine so. Having owned several very good handling bikes, I
    wouldn't be prepared to go back to a stock B12.

    I have a marvellous handling Gixer, it really is the best bike I have
    ever owned. It simply goes round corners like it's on rails with no
    hassles, but I get far more pleasure from fighting the Bandit's crap
    suspension and flexy frame as I attack a set of twisties at nowhere near
    the same speed. It really is a step back to when I was in my early 20s
    and trying to keep up with mates on my old GS550.

    You slightly misunderstand. I'd had a CG125, then the SZR for a couple
    of years, when I bought the B12 - I really had very limited experience
    of riding other bikes - I think I'd had a 30 minute ride on a mate's
    VFR750 and a similar go on an R1100. I was riding a road I new
    wellish, and on a sharp left hander, prepared to flick the bike on
    it's side like I would have done on the SZR. Nothing happend on the
    B12, and I went across the oncoming traffic and into the field. I kept
    it upright, mind, and there was no damage to the bike, but the whole
    thing was caused by my inexperience at the time. After owning the B12
    for a while, I got used to it.
    See, I actually do know where you're coming from, because I do enjoy
    wrestling the R65LS around, particularly in the company of other
    riders on more modern machinery - there's a particular sort of warm
    glow you get from just about keeping up[1].

    I even used to get a reasonable buzz riding my CD200 through London
    traffic, as I was going as fast as anyone else. Of course, this all
    turns to shit when you find you can't stop as fast as anyone else...

    [1] I mean with some people, obviously I can't keep up with anyone
    competently riding a modern sportsbike.
