Well, it appears they do have them setup for average speed. First person i
have ever known just got told by his office he got caught average speed on
    the M62 of 58 in a 50.....

What did you think they were set up for?

I don't think that was ever in doubt, was it? All the m-way road works
are festooned with the things, plus bloody great warning signs. That's
when cruise control (on cars) and an absence of a front number plate
    (on bikes) come in handy.

You sure you're not muddling these with the threatened nationwide
coverage withe the bastard things, instead of just stretches of dug-up
    motorway?

  5. That's the first person I have ever heard of getting done by one.

    AOL
We were talking in the office last week and wondering if they were actually
    active. Anywhere.
I'll stick to my sat-nav verified limit plus 10% then.

Beware the A38 rear facing Specs (for bikes)

Hmm, his speedo was probably reading 65 then. So in a sign-posted 50
where you know there are cameras, that's possibly a little incautious.

There's regular whinges in the local rags about people getting done by
the ones on the M42 around Birmingham.

It's understandable if he thought they were individual cameras and he
    slowed down for each one.

Plenty of people don't seem to understand the concept of averages.
I've successfully tested the theory that cameras only work on one lane.

  16. Do you actually know *anyone* who's had a ticket from a set of average
    speed cameras?

Obviously the word 'average' below the speed camera sign is there
    because it looks pretty.

  20. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Ben
And what percentage of passing motorists would give that word any
thought at all, or understand it if they did, do you suppose?
