Just a reminder for those who said they're going. I'll be there around
    6.30.

Gyp, let me know if you're going & I'll bring the Belkin.

I'll be there, but a little later I suspect.

I've just got to grout some tiles and fill a hole in a wall before I
come out to play. I suspect I'll be there at about 7.30.

    See what I can do.

    Pass Out!

Champ, shall I meet you there, or do you want to meander down
    together?

Going slow is a good plan atm anyway - the roads are melting all over
    the place.

    So loads of grip then?

I wonder if they actually use different tarmac over here? I mean, it's
been over 30DegC and with massively strong sunshine almost every day
for the last three weeks here, and none of the roads are melting.

He has a point you know. With the state of the road around here, you
do get strips of pure molten tar.

We'll just have to dodge those bits.

I'm pretty sure the tarmac is different over there; more like
    concrete, I thought?

Doesn't look any different. Black stuff with bits in it. Certainly
laid in the same way as UK roads.

Err... no. The surface may be very sticky, but it's no longer attached
    to anything.
Something must be different, & I suspect it's the amount of stones.
More of 'em will help protect the tar from the sun, much like the
stones used to protect the felt on flat roofs.

Probably, I was just guessing based on the fact that roads in hot
places /seem/ to be lighter in colour.

... which is the colour of the binding layer[/QUOTE]

Ah, I thought it was because the stones are light & the tar's black, so
lighter means a higher stone-to-tar ratio.
That makes two of us then. Usenet rocks.

I'd have thought that more likely.
I wouldn't have said those around here are any different in appearance
from those in the UK. Then again, it's not like we're a 'hot place',
just sometimes somewhat warmer than blighty.

That's repairs though, innit? Presumably covering cracks caused by
    subsidence and/or cold.

S'wot it looks like to me, anyhoo.
