well, there *is* that saddle just on the Harrietville side of Hotham...... For the most part the run is a good road with a nice surface. Are you going up via Omeo? The Omeo-Hotham run is nice. The main dangers are being distracted by the views and some of the blind corners on the descent to Harrietville. They have done some work in recent years to make them safer, but just assume there is a tour bus coming around every corner and choose an appropriate road position. If you are heading from Hotham to Omeo, keep an eye out for the speed advisory sign (maybe 12 k before Omeo) on which someone has added an exclamation mark. From memory it's a 50k/h advisory sign, and unlike the others in the area, this one really means it. Enjoy. Moike
I think it'll be a bit of a challenge, given my fear of heights .... but I'm riding with a girl friend on a scoot, and she's not a girl racer like some of my other friends - so when I say we'll be riding our own rides at our own pace, I imagine it'll be a fairly sedate pace on the scarier bits. We're taking a long weekend - Friday will be Canberra to Wandiligong via Kiandra/Corryong/Tallangatta (and some other places I've forgotten). Saturday will be Wandiligong to Mallacoota via the Great Alpine Rd and back up via Orbost, then Sunday we're taking a nice cruisy trip home via Cann River and Bombala. I don't think I'll be distracted by the views, Moike - on those really high winding bits it'll be more likely "View? What view?" Thanks for the advice re the advisory sign, too! betty
