Aunty Carole to the rescue!

  1. Fuckity-****. The "new rear tyre puncture" fairy has struck again. The
Red Flashing Light Of Doom came on on the way home tonight. I limped to
Halfrauds in Stevenage and bought a footpump. Much energetic leaping up
and down and I could hear the air hissing out.

    Bolleaux.

There was a fucking great screw right in the middle of the tread.

"No problem" think I, "I'll use that nifty tyre plugging system wot I
    bought from GLF".

Fucking useless piece of shit that was. The special tool does a great
job of cutting the plug in half just before it actually goes into place.

Fortunately the nice man from Aunty Carole's recovery troops was with me
within the hour (thanks to the Pixies for looking the number up for
me!), slung it in the van and drove me home.

I'll bet that "repair" kit has fucked the tyre. It's done less that 200
    miles... <sob>.

    Ho-hum, it's only money.

If you can get hold of the BMW standard equipment tyre repair kit, I think
they're about 17 quid. I've used them several times and they work a treat!

That's the very one that was completely useless when confronted with a
    dead 020 this evening.

    Oh yes.
Thats happened to me three times now - one at just under 30 miles, the
    others sub 500.

    Probably :^(

Thing is, the "tool" cut through the plug before it went into the tyre.
On all three plugs. On the last attempt, the little tang that holds the
plug on the tool broke off. So now it's probably in the tyre...

    Pissed off? Oh yes.

I used one on Tori's Bandit and it lasted a few weeks before she bought
    a new tyre.

I've had only one puncture in nearly 30 years of riding. That was on my
ZX-9R and it happened on the day I was meant to be riding it down to
its new owner. It went flat overnight, so I wasn't exactly stuck out in
the wilds anywhere. As I was selling the bike to Beelzebub I just
called her up and asked if it was ok if I plugged it and she said go
ahead, so I had it done properly at a local garage I know.

Thing is, these aren't mushroom-shaped at all. They're... Odd. They're
kind of like a Gothic script capital O.

The idea is that the whole thing goes into the hole and stretches to
either side of it. Then you chop off the excess on the outside and ride
    away happy.

The problem I had was that the plug would *not* go into the hole even
after I'd reamed it with the tool provided. Kind of a BGN-stylee
    problem.

The destructions warn against twisting the tool as you insert it, so I
didn't. The tool then happily cut straight through the plug.

    Like I said, useless.

  20. My incidence of punctures dropped remarkably when I got out of the habit
of filtering through the dusty crap at traffic islands. Every nail in
the vicinity gets flicked to the immediate area of those.
