Just got the renewal quote through for this year. Apart from the fact
that they forgot to take off one bike, it's also gone up by only 200
quid compared to last year. They've got to be smoking something really
    good...

Anybody got a recommendation for a decent broker? Keep in mind that my
bikes are on a classic policy (yes, even the BMW) so I don't have any
NCB to speak of at the moment.

I'll give them a bell in a sec to let them know what I think of their
quote. This is going to be fun.

  2. you could try what I did.
After I got a ludicrous quote from them, I got quotes from a few others, the
cheapest was ebike. Then, I phoned them back and they managed to beat it.
Seems they don't go for the lowest quote initially, you have to force their
    hand.

I have 2 bikes on a policy and my Saab through them and no complaints. Funny
old business. My 911 might be going on too.... unless the lure of that new
GT3 gets the better of me.

AA Multibike. 130 quid for the list below FC with CIHAGM.
A tad more if you are not an AA member, a tad less if you get to AA via
Tesco online, grab the clubcard points, then phone for the multibike.

Why do you say no NCB, classic bike policies have NCB just like any
other. Classic policy might not be the best though, not suitable for
me because my garage is half a mile away and I like to have one bike
parked outside of the door ready for use.
All bikes on a classic policy must be locked in a garage.

I have 5 bikes (two non-classic) on one policy (?210) and the Jag (?164)
    - all non-garaged in Brighton, fully comp inc European cover and EU
breakdown. I have a recent disqualification but I'm now 41 - it seems
    bloody good value to me.

    Yep.
Last year I paid £140ish for my Hornet.
I've recently added a Vespa to the same policy and the renewal came through
at £260 - shopping round I've got both covered for £150

I've insured my bikes for at least 5-6 years in a row with them, plus
I've got the 911 insured with them too. At least the latter is very
    likely to change.

Hmm. Might be worth a call.
No they don't, you'll find that on most classic policies - be it car or
bike - you will not accrue and NCB. And you'll also find that you don't
necessarily have to garage them either, even though mine are.

I actually skipped the "phone someone else bit", phoned them up and
channeled my irate inner boxhead down the phone.

Amazingly enough there was "an error with your quotation" and after
taking off the Harley that shouldn't have been on there, the amount
quoted went down by 289(!) of your finest British Pounds. 218 quid and
some pence for the bikes in the sig sounded far more palatable so I
asked them to confirm it in writing.

Not a bad price considering the BMW in there and your being a
    youngster.
Why are Beemers always so expensive to insure ?.

is £76 full comp expensive, then?

I switched to Footman James last year. Partly because they count all
my fleet as classic at over 15 years old except the Voxan. Also
because unlike Auntie Carole did they don't think the Roadster is
equivalent to a GSXR1000. TBF, Carole Nash were very helpful in
getting an unofficial import insured in 2004 though.

Don't forget that I also have an unlimited mileage policy on account of
doing at around 10x the national average[1] bike mileage per
    year. That's not cheap either.
Part prices if they get damaged.

    [1] IIRC it's still somewhere around 2k/year, isn't it?

    4K a year, IIRC.

My Versys is already doing more than twice the national average at 4500
miles since March 1st, so I really do hope it's not 2K/year

I thought it was less but what do I know?
Heh. I've done about 35k on the BMW since 30th November 2007.

E swears by E H Ranson. It could be because she is Scottish as well, but
they consistently seem to deliver a decent quote without trying to gouge
every renewal. I'm only still with CN because of their reputed
excellence in dealing with claims (which I've yet to test).

I bought the thou in January with 3500 miles on the clock, at which
point it'd done about 800 miles per year. It had an 8000 mile service in
July and it'll be just about due for a 12000 mile service in a couple of
    weeks.

And all I use it for is a 15 mile round-trip commute four times a week.
    And a few trips away...

I hadn't expected to rack up miles quite this quickly.

On which note I've just realised my insurance is based on an annual
mileage of 5000. Which I've now done. Might have to give H&R a ring...

We're talking about insurers here. Is there anything they *won't* hold
    against you?

I got curious and found this thread on money saving expert:

I doubt they could really refuse a claim unless you were shown to be
    obviously acting in bad faith.
