Auntie Carole again

  1. This is getting silly. My 'modern' multibike policy, with Carole Nash,
is up for renewal, and it comes in at just short of £600, or getting on
    for double last year's price.

I've already had a quote of around £275 from eBike (or someone -
paperworks in my office drawer right now).

And, surprise surprise, on querying, CN manages to bring their renewal
    down to... £350.

Now this really pisses me off because (a) it isn't that competitive and
    (b) it shows they were taking the royal piss with the first quote. I've
got 16 years' NCB. *Sixteen fucking years*. You want to keep customers
    like that, you do.

Oh, and who's their recommended insurer. Groupama. Remind me: who bought
    CN? Oh yes. Groupama.

So that's it. I'm off, after a decade and a half. They can continue to
have my classic business, unless they start taking the piss there too,
but as far as Im concerned they're now deliberately trying to milk their
customer base, and that is not the way to do things.

They're all at it - I assume they've figured out enough people just
    renew to make it worthwhile.

On a phone call I knocked off over £430 on the renewal of my house and
    contents insurance.

Same here with Direct Line, renewal in the post, £600, give them a
ring and query it, suddenly becomes a bit under £300.
    Question everything, all the time.

That's why I use an independent broker for my car insurance. Changed my
company again this year because it would be cheaper given the length of
    European cover I need.

As to bikes I switched to Footman James last year.

I just open the quote, do an online (CN) check, get the now much cheaper
renewal price, ring them and and ask they honour it.

    Which they do.

And usually drop the broker fee.

XJR was 160ukp last year, due up soon, lets see what happens :)

Can you get European breakdown cover on the fleet included for £350 with
    another firm?

Think of it this way, for each mug that automatically renews then CN have
more scope to discount prices for those willing to haggle. I believe this
is a business model you would subscribe to when actually buying & selling
    bikes...

    I'm not so sure....

Anyway: Devitt quote £340-odd (no breakdown cover, though) and eBike
    £312, including breakdown cover.

Footman James did mine last year for £230 including European breakdown
cover (AXA). That's for the Voxan (modern and imported) plus one
Nordwest and two GFRs. Max NCB and great decrepitude of rider naturally.
Just waiting for the renewal notice in November and then I'll phone and
haggle for cover also including the MX5.

Did that. Just over £400. That's for four modern bikes: the Street
    Trip, K11, K100RS and the Ducati 750SS.

Ah, they are usually a better bet for 'classics', and they will do a one
modern plus various over 15 years old SOBs policy. Plus I got a discount
    for club membership.

Presumably none of your fleet meet their classic definition - even the
    Ducati?

Conversely, H&R have yet again come in with a competitive renewal quote
for the RGV and no fucking about. I'll be surprised if it isn't the same
with them for the GSXR in a month or so.

Correct. Mind, they did say it'd be cheaper to insure the classics
    separately.

  14. I'd have to check, but knocking that much off my H & C (two
separate policies) would nearly leave them paying me I think. Unfortunately
renewal comes at a bad time of the year, when I'm usually more focussed on
my trip to the December CMS meeting (aka Christmas piss-up). Mebbe this
year I can get in a pre-emptive meerkat...

  15. I don't even do that - I just renew at the online rate then let them run
round in circles trying to get NCB confirmation from themselves!
