    It does...
"YOU ARE BIDDING ON A " J " REG ESCORT VAN"

"Mate, I was bidding on a J reg van, as stated at the begining of your
advertisment.. This isn't a J reg van, so where's the J reg van your
advertisment said I was bidding on? I know the one in the photos was an
H.... You do have the J reg one I was bidding on as well, don't you?"

I do, if he's threatening to sue:-

The first line is a statement defining the transaction, and precisely
    what you're bidding for.

"YOU ARE BIDDING ON A " J " REG ESCORT VAN"

His subsequent correction *added half way through the auction* does not
in any way say you are now bidding for the H reg van in the pictures, it
just says "I AM VERY SORRY BUT SOMEONE SPOTTED THE VAN BEING ADVERTISED
AS A "J" REG WHEN IN FACT IT IS A "H" REG. I AM SORRY ".

    Or, alternatively "I can't tender a J reg van."

I'm not a lawyer.. Still, firstly I reckon for £500 he wouldn't sue,
secondly I'd take a punt that if were he stupid enough to it wouldn't
    stand up in court.

Despite all the above, I'd not actually be stupid enough to bid on that
pile of shit in the first place, so for me it's a non-issue... :)

Didn't Sweller mention something about a similar system on diesel
locomotives? Or was that someone else?

So the principal - and possibly this particular device - is sound but not
appropriate for a small delivery van.

Could have been worse: he could have asked Dodger to play in the buff.
