  1. Sounds like it - X reg I think.
Tell you what - next time I see you/him/her I'll wind down the window
    and shout "Oi ****".
Hexham - and I might just risk that.
    Thanks but no thanks.

I've posted about a couple of dozen times but have been mainly lurking
since the days of Ged and peDANtic et al.

For mat@work, the ZX9 is a great bike, I've had mine for two years now
and haven't reached it's limits on the road. It is a bit on the large
side compared to modern sports bikes but it handles well for that and is
fucking fast. I'm a bit of a fat bastard 9(5ft10 and 16 stone) so it
    suits me perfectly.

I heard the phrase 'Waving a baton in the Albert Hall' with regards to
this. Not that I'd know, of course.

OK, here goes. The ZX9R was the most barking bike you could buy, for
three weeks in early 1998. Then the R1 came out. Such is life. As
it is, it's still a supremely fast and capable sports motorcycle, with
more than enough power, great brakes and pretty good handling. It's
just not quite as sophisticated as the latest generation of litre
bikes. However, it's physically bigger and roomier than these, so
works really well as a sports tourer too. For instance, when I rode
my 9R to the south of France and back, I had not a jot of neck ache.
When I took the gixxer on a similar trip, even with a double bubble
screen I was much less comfortable.

So, if you want a top notch sports bike, the 9R is not it. If you
want a good all rounder that is sporty enough, you could do a lot
worse, especially as they are really cheap compared to the
    competition.

The ZX7R is a different kettle of fish. By 2004 sports bike standards
it's heavy and slow. However, it has one of the best front ends in
the business, an unburstable engine (ahem) with much more useful power
than a modern 600 (imo), and the looks to make you feel like your
leading the pack into the first corner at Le Mans. <aside: if you do
    get one, I've a few spares. Including a 122bhp motor>

  10. It was on December the 20th in torrential rain and howling gales. I lost count of
how many times I was pushed from one side of the carriage way to the other by the
wind, which was VERY scary, and got soaked through in the first 20 minutes. The
first thing i did when i arrived in truro was to put dry clothes on (which were in
my rucksack, the rain got through my anorak trousers, coat, fleece, etc.) and sit in
front of the fire for half an hour before i stopped shaking, then I went down the
pub. The journey back was nicer as I borrowed a load of proper clothes to wear and
it wasn't so windy or raining.

When I get a proper bike, I hope to do the trip with an average speed of over 34 mph
on the way down (every time i changed up a gear, the headwind caused e to lose 5
mph) and 37 on the way up...

    But thanks, anyway.

I live directly under one of the flightpaths into Heathrow, close enough
that the planes are just about putting their undercarriage down as they fly
overhead (I think, don't usually look too closely). You hear rumours about
aircraft lobbing out toilet contents but it seems unlikely to me and I've
certainly never seen any evidence (mebbe they wouldn't dream of discharging
over sunny Kew where a fair number of pilots and crew live?), that'd mean
having some sort of on board system for ejecting the contents of the septic
tanks. Doesn't sound terribly likely now does it?
