Well, out and out grunt enters into it as well, the VFR is a bit gutless
in that department, but capable non the less... but yes, I agree on the
    blackbird.

I don't plan to change bikes and just want to be told the 9R isn't as
good at it appears to be as a workable all rounder.

normally, I'd just point out that it's a Kawasaki, and therefore
shite. But you've already got a Kawasaki, and - gasp - I've vaguely
entertaining the idea of getting a Z1000[1].

[1] I was thinking[2] of an Aprilia Tuono, but SimonK has put me off
[2] this is all pie-in-the-sky speculation anyway until I find out
    what happens in February.

Generally, its much like January but usually a bit warmer.

Consider how many local prilly dealers you have..
Me too, but I know I'm headed for a good bonus.

Rob, I can categorically state that the 9R isn't as good as it appears
to be as a workable all rounder.

FWIW, a mate of mine has ZRX11 and does a number of two-up European
    trips
every year. He really rates it after his VFR.

Not you as well? If all goes well, it could be the 'clit' bike
    for 2004.

I tried a VFR before I bought the ZRX and found the ZRX was the more
versatile of the two. At 100MPH the bikini fairing still works well
enough to make riding effortless.. at 130 it's very hard work though,
which is probably a good thing.

I guess this has been discussed before, but for touring you have to
take tank range into consideration as well as comfort. It's all
very well being able to sit comfortably at 130+ for ages, but if it
means you have to stop every 100 miles[1] for petrol it sort of
    defeats the object.

[1] or less for a Bandit, eh Sean?

I'm not exactly a lurker, I have dipped into the well before (visions
of frogs, toads and other well-wishers). Have given up on the acronyms
but I'm interested in the numbers game. Do you get numbers for coming
off the bike (in motion)? My beloved and I smacked into a car doing a
U-turn in front of us (A10), both taken to hospital and she had a bone
broken in her wrist, me badly bruised, lucky or what!

And what about rides out near Preston? I'm planning to get some advanced
tuition beforehand, but I quite fancy the notion if anything is on the
    cards.

When I was a young lad and had just joined the army as an apprentice,
they sent me to train at Arborfield near Reading. I owned a 6 year old
and very battered FS1E which would just about do 45 flat out. Whenever I
had a couple of leave days, I'd ride to Leicester on the A roads to see
my girlfriend with a tent and sleeping bag etc strapped to the back of
the bike[1]. I must have done that journey about 5 or 6 times.

[1] Girlfriend's dad hated me so much[2] that he wouldn't let me stay in
their house, I used to camp up in a friend of the g/fs back garden.
[2] I paid him back by getting his daughter pregnant :)
