    So, plan of action:

    1) Become gay
    2) Come out the closet
    3) Dump girlfriend
    4) Stop eating pies.
    5) Lose weight

    9) Profit!
But it seems not to be. My brother and his wife have been doing something
very similar, eat mountains of porkchops, eggs etc and remove all the bread
and pasta. I've never seen the **** looking so skinny.

Which nicely describes what the book of the Atkins diet tells you to
do, as opposed to what the Daily Mail tells you the etkins diet
    is.......

    30 year fad?

Having been fat since childhood, I would thoroughly recommend it.
I've lost nigh on 3 stone since April without trying desparately hard.

Please bear in mind that 99% of what is written about the Atkins diet
(and apparently transmitted) is pure crap by those that have not read
the book. (as is constantly demonstrated in these threads) Read it,
    think aobut it then decide.

It certainly worked for me, and I reckon the reasons it worked are
pretty sound. He is way too evangelical when it comes to supplements
IMHO, and I've not touched them.

You will need to exercise though.
    I missed it.

One thing that always amazes me. As soon as a fat person needs
decides to lose weight, every*fucking*one you meet is a nutritional
expert. *Particularly* those that have never had to lose a pound.

If you stick it through all the 'advice' and actually start losing
weight, immediately you are told 'that's just water'

**** em all I say. Read the book, and make your own mind up

Exactly. The thing that was really nice about last nights programme was
that for once no-one said "on the Atkins diet you cut out all
    carbohydrate".

The biggest risk for people that want to do Atkins is to simply get a
*no* carb message and cut them out completely.

    Carbohydrates are critically important.

    Like the bloke says.

Atkins plus exercise has seen me lose 34lbs.

Atkins without exercise saw absolutely nothing happen.

Excercise without Atkins sees no weight loss plus 'bloated' feeling.

But like all food and exercise routines what suits one person will not
suit the next. Sensible control and monitoring is called for.

Do the reading make your own mind up.

So the diet wasn't a complete waste of time, then?

No - it was a good result in hindsight. Paying a hitman to punch her in

I'm sure you could have found a freelancer around here to do it for a
couple of pints of lager and a chicken phal.

I've seen this lot drink and eat - 150 would have been the cheaper

Most of them either would have got lost, broken down or punched the

I've been running over the summer (three times a week) and
have been going to karate sessions twice a week. Definitely
    slimmer.

You're fat because this hole <points at mouth> is bigger than this hole
    <points at arse>

Eat sensibly and exercise regularly. Boring I know but effective.

Cutting down on the spuds, bread and pasta only makes it easier to
    lose the pounds, though.

There are two basic things to look for in a weight loss diet: calorie
count (which the Atkins diet achieves by nefarious means) and attention
to the Glycaemic Index of a food.

Avoid sugary foods with a high GCI, and eat fewer calories than you
burn, and you can't fail to lose weight _and_ stabilise your blood
    sugar levels.
I've been losing weight steadily this way for months now without
actually having to bother with exercise, and I still eat junk on a
    regular basis.

Something fat people waffle on about in order to avoid doing any
