Perhaps it's drunk from traditional glasses with bottoms like magnifying
    lenses?

When did it go up to 5 bob? My first pint would have been the year
    before that. Probably.

1957 after suez sEos xtra went up to 5/½d a galleon. It dropped after that. I
remember offers on eJt around 1964 at 5 galleons forra pound. unfortunately
my A7SS only had a 4¼ galleon tanque so I had to cnl 4/4d a galleon.

  9. 12 pennies in a shilling yes but 1 and a tanner is eighteen pence luv. Or
2 for half a dollar if you give me a kiss. Tell you what, call it 3 for 5
bob and when you sit down tonight for a glass of makinsons with yer old
man you can both have a bit of what the family finds favourite. Can't say
fairer than that can I eh?

I'm actually in the process of reducing the amount of tqt around (the
shed has been reduced from an 8x10xwaistheight repository of allsorts
to something I can get into) so I think TLOML might raise
objections... Will bear it in mind though ta.

Indeed you have: 18p is eighteen new pence: old money would be 18d.
Both are pennies, though - 1s/6d was pronounced one shilling and
sixpence or "one and six" and never one shilling and six denari. For
    ten years after decimalisation the coinage had the words "New Pence" on it.;

d was simply accepted as the abbreviation for "penny", just as a crossed
L (for Livres) was accepted as the abbreviation for "Pound"
