  1. Given that it was you who posed the question it may indeed be the case.

Nah, yer ten bob note was only good for four or at most
five pints when thee and me were lads, Braïn.

Cheapest I ever came across was Mild at 1/4d a pint,
although 1/10d would buy a passable pint of 'Cooking'.

  4. Ye gods - and to think when they shrunk the pond newt back around
the end of the 70s we took to calling the new undersized newts three pint
tokens 'cos they weren't proper quids. Of course soon after we got the
Maggies (aka sling bullets) and it all went downhill from there.

18p is just more than 3/6d, and ISTR my first pint cost 3/-.
    Courage's. What a waste of 3 shillings!

I'm just starting my millet-is-gluten-free experiments.
If this millet I've bought will malt, it should work out about 25p a
    pint.

The first time I ever got badly ipssed was in ... $MUMBLE[1]. '69, I think, or
it may have been '70. Scrumpy, at 10d a pint.

[1] Not the one on the $GOWER.

Mild at 1/3d at the Sir John Barleycorn Cadnam ca 1967, prolly the first

  9. 12 pennies to a bob, thus 18 of them equals 1 shilling and six pence.

  11. Not at all. 1/6d was, in those parts of the world where English is our
native tongue, vendors would often be heard to say things such as "that'll
be 18pence to you love", when they meant 10 dollars.

    Quite right!

    5p to a bob or
    12d to a bob.
    18p = 43.2d = 3/7d (and a bit less than a farthing left over).

"Boza allegedly has the ability to enlarge women's breasts."

In the eye of the drinker, perhaps?

I also have a bookmark for a page about some tibetan version
Not yet found much on how the Africans brew with it.

  19. If it helps any it was about that time I became aware of petrol prices and
3 and 8 seems to ring a bell as the price of a gallon.

Free, to be honest - I'd love to keep it but I've really got enough
stuff. getting it from Telford to wherever you are might take a while.
