Changing the subject slightly: a former G/F had a Renault 4 van with
an intermittent headlight. A quick tap of the lens was enough to get
it wotking for a while. Until, that is, I tapped a bit too hard and my
finger went straight through the lens. Oops.

    Percussinve maintenance, that.

Works fine in the short term for filament blubs provided they're "on"
    when you tap it.

  3. All of them a sum of money that is a total irrelevance to the overwhelming
    majority of ukrm readers.

A tenner?? Give them an hour and an open bar and they will be pissing
    twice that down the drain.

  4. Accuracy? You are talking out of your arse. 14 and a bit volts is one of
the oft quoted voltages needed to be measured around these parts. It
doesn't matter a damn how accurate that bit is as along as it is.

    Which is it:
    a) You're a teetotaler
    b) You drink (very) cheap alcohol
    c) You get others to pay for your drinks

All three seem to fit the bill, though I'm near enough a).

  9. It's much easier these days - I saw £3.40 a pint recently and not even in
    That London.

  10. I was reasonably happy with 3 quid/pint at the Stotfold Mill steam rally
real ale bar yesterday, but then it was Buntingford Brewery Oatmeal
Stout; an excellent pint, to my taste. Banks and Taylors, Breconshire,
and several other good ales were also to be had there.

I recently bought someone a small Coke and heard the price as "three
pounds eight", I gulped and handed him the exact amount, only to be told
it was "three pounds EIGHTY" ... this was only in Peterbore.

I bought some of what passed for beer in central Paris (WOCAB), and after
some calculation on both zu and volumetrics it seemed to be about eight
    pounds a pint.

And that was over 15 years ago.

I don't cnl that much, usually sam smiths at about 1.6zu. or manget at
    2.05zu.

Rarely do I fcraq much more than a fiver.

I unforgets in my yoof a 1/2 zu note lasting a full weak end heavy drinking
    session.

Why on earth would I want one meter to check voltages on the bikes and
another one to do accurate readings on audio and digital circuitry?

  15. Lightweight.

The fewest amount I have ever paid for booze was one and a tanner for
scrumpy in the Grand Pier Hotel on Pier hill in Sarfend and 18 pence for a
pint of bitter in the Railway just over the road from Temple Meads Station
in Brizzle and at that time in my life a pound what I got for a day's
labour. I call it labour but it wasn't hard, it was when alan sugar was
an apprentice himself and his job, just like mine, was to make tea and buy
cakes and I know what his job was because folks have told me I have a
years seniority on him with the GPO. Or was that the bloke who started
    Maplins?

  16. What accuracy are you talking about? Seems to me that the greatest need
for accuracy measurement in both analogue and digital circuitry is that of
frequency for which you a scope would be the better tool. Unless your
grids are a bit dippy in which case a meter would be obligatory.

That seems optimistic for that London, even the Chandos.

I forget what I was paying in the Champion a fortnight ago, but then I
was not in a state to unforget much.

  18. SS OBB is around the 2zu mark here in Terry Matthews land. Spoon prices
have also gone through the 2zu barrier (GK Ruddles "Best" Bitter
excepted), but £2.80 is par for a decent pub.

Back in the 1970s I was charged 99p for a glass of water with a dash of
orange in the hotel bar I was staying at. (I was nominated driver for
the night). IIRC beer was about 40p/pint.

I was so annoyed I bought a pint of beer and, with the help of a sheet
of paper, left the full glass inverted on the beer pump at the bar.
