Rebuilt the top end of my son's Gilera Runner 50, which took several hours.
Then a trip to get it an MOT - failed. Then replaced worn shock absorber
and a couple of other minor things - passed the MOT the second time, exactly
one week ago. Ordered him rather expensive some new mirrors to replace the
nasty pattern jobbies on it. They arrived this morning. However - before he
gets home on the Runner to get them fitted he gets hit from behind whilst
stationary by a car doing at least 20mph - DRVEN BY A FUCKING DRUNK!!!
Back of the scooter is a mess and son is suffering from whiplash.

Still the police arrested the bastard driver and locked him up in the police
cells. He goes before the magistrates tomorrow - bye bye license and hello
whopping great fine. And they have told me that the driver is insured and
has no previous so the insurance claim will be pretty straightforward. It
could have been much worse I suppose but I feel so sorry for the lad. The
Runner had been off the road for several months awaiting the repairs and he
was SO please to have it on the road again - and now he will have to wait
around for the insurance to sort it all out. Arse, arse, arse...........
    ARSE!!!

  3. Commiserations. Seriously. What a bastard.

At least your son is alive, though. Now sue the drunken **** for
    everything.

(btw, The Doctor got all her expenses associated with her skittling paid
last week. Now we have to see about the damages).

As was said to me - get the third party to pay if you can - not your/his
    insurance.

Also phone phone phone - you'd be surprised how much quicker you can do
these things if are willing to do it. Okay, in theory you shouldn't have to,
but had I left both of the claims I've made to my own insurer, I think I
might still be waiting for anything to happen.

With mine, I found the third party's ins. co much easier to deal with then
mine (mine still haven't accepted the third party has insurance, despite
said ins. co. already paying up for repairs :) )

And make an statement in writing that states time is of the essence or your
    solicitor
(and their fees) will become involved.
My solicitor was happy to write the letter for nowt (green card thing)
    the insewerants responded very quickly.

If there is a silver lining its that the other party was drunk - it
will invariably mean that the other insurance company wont dispute
liability. Just make sure you keep a record of *everything* -
phonecalls, transport (when you have to give him a lift etc), stamps
etc - and claim the lot.
    regards

What an *utter* bastard! All that waiting for the bike and then..Wallop! Sue
the arse off him. Hope yer lad heals quick too. I know what whiplash is
like. 14months on and still get nasty neckache after an hour or two in the
saddle. Mind ewe, legal case still ongoing, so may get something after all.

    <snip>

Find the baddest lawyer you can and let them loose on the irresponsible
bastard. First threat from the one I used was to go after the other
bloke's house - which kind of focussed the twat's attention.
In my world causing an accident with injuries under the influence
carries the death penalty - after all, he nearly applied that to your
    lad.

  11. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember
    (The Older Gentleman) saying
    something like:
I hope you're remembering to claim for the camera equipment that was
    damaged in the crash. <g>
