    Ahem. I have been remiss.

However, I have emailed one Statto of this parish this very evening.

My excuse is that I've only been home two nights and I've had a certain
amount of posting to UKRM and frantic monkey-sex to achieve in that
    time.

I'm in town on Monday and Tuesday nights, astride GoldBlinger. Beers?

Sounds spiffing. Statto, my social secretary, is on the case.

Tuesday and Wednesday. That's the diabetes and weight control down the
    pan.

BTW Verdi is right about the WW method and it works well for "us". I'm
down to 5-6 (1) and down 6kg in a month.

    (1) trying to regularise my diet pre oral insulin had it around 10-12

On the evening of my 16th birthday, I took my (riding bikes since he
was 13) dad out on my noddy-bike. After a mile he tapped me on the
shoulder and said "Take me home".

Wondering what I'd done wrong, we got home again and he said "You did
just fine. Go and enjoy yourself". 'spec!

The next morning morning I biked to school, and felt great walking
along the corridor to the cloakroom, wearing my tatty flying-jacket
and nonchalantly holding my pudding-basin skid lid. More 'spec!

It all seems a long time ago.....:-(

    Kim Bolton says...
At 16 my dad took the keys for my Fizzie off me because he declared it
dangerous - this was on the basis of a 100 yard ride he took on it. He
said the gearchange was on the wrong side and I would have problems.

I got the keys back when I explained that I'd never ridden anything with
a right foot gearchange for more than 20 yards before it broke down, so
having a left foot change was the only way I knew.

  15. Heh. The joy and agony of your fitst bike.

Jamie is eyeing the delights of his CD125 Benly (he's road legal in
three weeks) and is already asking if he can "just take it round the
    block".

    Answer: no. :)

Incidentally, I asked Auntie Carole for a quote to upgrade his insurance
from the moped to the 125 on his 17th birthday - the policy expires in
early January - and they said "£25", which seems reasonable.

Thus spake Lozzo () unto the assembled multitudes:
My first two-wheeler was a Lambretta SX200, November 1973. My dad took me
to the seller (a work colleague at Sainsbury's) to collect it. F*ck me,
I'd never even ridden a powered bike before! On the 10 mile journey home
(along the busy-even-then coast road from Shoreham through Brighton to
Woodingdean) I ran into the back of my dad's car twice (though not enough
to cause damage), and was too nervous to advance beyond 2nd gear.

I'm not sure who was more scared by the experience, my dad or me, but he
didn't try to dissuade me from riding it afterwards and I soon got the hang
of it. I suspect he held a sneaky admiration for me for having the nerve
to ride it in the first place without any experience at all.

I soon realised that the bike was a POS and traded it for an Ariel Leader...

I had a 250K4 and it was fine. However a mate had a "G" and it was
    indeed a PoS.
