Dunno about the learner permit bit. Here in NSW, an over 30
rider can skip 'P' and go straight to full license. I have to
do the pre-learner training, then the computerised multi-guess
'knowledge test', then I get an 'L' license.

Once I have that (as an over 30 rider), I can turn right around
and book in for the 'P' course/practical test and, if I pass
that, graduate to a full license straight away. The only
restriction on the full license is no pillion passengers for the
    first year.

Technically, a 30yo could go from unskilled to full license in
three days in NSW without ever riding a bike solo on the road.
Practically, I think pulling it off would be a bit arsey,
'cos the slow speed skills test is pretty tricky.

Find an email address associated with the website or brochure and query the
accuracy of the statement. I recently queried a statement in a brochure
available from the Arrive Alive website which said that motorcyclists were 30
times more likely to be _involved_ in a crash than car drivers. This was a
misquote of TAC stat which stated that motorcyclists were 30 times more likely
to be _injured_ in a crash. I received a reply recently acknowledging the
error and stating that the next edition of the brochure would be corrected...
    waiting to see.

The other restriction apart from no pillion for a year is a BAC of 0.02 for
the first year while riding. To qualify you need to have a gold drivers
licence or be eligible for a gold drivers licence and be 30 or older in NSW.

The only thing is that there is no indication on your licence that you have
the two restrictions - no pillion and 0.02 so the copper would have to do a
computer licence check to find out you are restricted.

Buggar me (figure of speech), thanks for pointing that one
out! I'd have been stuffed without that little bit of info.
Mayhaps this whole motorcycling malarky will see me even more
dried out than it has already! Excellent news!

    and days when I'm riding.

I recently checked out the Vic Roads Arrive Alive site to check
out the new L and P laws regarding demerit points , whilst
perusing the site I came across this statement

    " Initiatives

    Improved Training and Licensing

Inexperience is a key risk factor for motorcyclists. Under
current road laws, it is possible to obtain a licence to ride a
motorcycle, without the need for a learner permit, on completion
of an approved VicRoads training course. "

Can some one enlighten me on the section where it states ,obtian
a licence without the need for a learner permit,

News to me folks ,since when, I thought we all had to do the 3
month learner then 12 month P plate stuff.

    NSW.

they are changine, have change ? the BAC to 0.0 as there was always the grey
area as to that you could drink a little bit ,

so there will be no confusion that you cannot drink at all
computer check which they do before they get out of the car and know what
    you
    ate for breakfast

Nah, you gotta leave a bit of leeway for alcohol in medicines.
Some stuff, cough medicine for eg, has alcohol in it.

Did that Nev and I am still awaiting reply , I spose they don't
get back to work until the 14 Jan .
I just threw the question at the News group to see if anyone new
to the motor cycle scene had heard of it . It makes no
difference to me or my licence but I found it odd to say the
least for the Arrive Alive site to make such a statement.
