Argh! CBR600 F2 instrument panel light bulbs?

I have instrument panel light bulbs that need to be replaced for nighttime
riding. I've looked through the F2 and common service manuals, and they
have no model numbers, although I believe that they are 3.4W based on my
post just below this one. Since the motobike is my only mode of
transportation (I'm not riding my bicycle 20 miles for some light bulbs), I
would really like to know what kind of bulbs I'd need to replace *before* I
strip down the bike. Does anybody happen to know?

 

I'd suspect that Honda used the same peanut bulbs (so no metal base,
just a crimped bit of glass with two wires coming out at one end) for
the instrument lights on your '92 CBR as they used on my '94 VFR. I went
to the NAPA store and found a size-equivalent (though it's brighter) for
them. Unfortunately for you, I've misplaced the NAPA reference, and I'm
not stripping my bike down just to check it. ;-)

What I do have is my original Honda lamp, which has the following
written on it:

Toshiba
A12V1.7W

lamp diameter: 0.95 cm
envelope total length: 2.4 cm
envelope length excluding base: 1.7 cm

I can get more measurements if you need them, but if you call up
someplace that sells professional electrical and lighting equipment
(around here, that's Kirby Risk) they can probably take what I've given
you and get you something suitable. With a bit of luck, they'll give you
a standard stock/reference number that you can then take wherever you
like. If I find the NAPA receipt or part, I'll let you know.

If you go to an auto parts store or a Honda dealer, there's really no
substitute for having the lamp in hand, unless you trust yourself with
the job of doing the physical measurements on an electrically equivalent
lamp. I'd certainly not trust their counter help.

I realize as a bicycle shop employee that when a customer says their bolt on
XYZ component failed and if we have one, they're SOL because I'm not *that*
astute Thanks for the specs and numbers... I'll check it out!
