Are wing mirrors fair game?

I've encountered more drivers who slide over to the left to allow me
    past
than those who slide to the right to stop me. It seems to be getting
    better
    lately too.

I find that most drivers tend to move over when I'm filtering. If they
move I give them a wave in return.

I dunno about most, a few certainly. More important though is that
traffic densities are such now that they have reached a point where,
even outside larger towns, standing traffic is commonplace. This brings
Them into contact with Us in a manner new to them. It has taken a bit
of time and perhaps a few more wing mirrors than some consider necessary
but the bike lane seems to be getting wider. Of course it could be that
I am getting just so damn good at doing it that it seems easy.

Absolutely and I do even if they don't but that is a wave of an entirely
    different nature.

    it.

Fucking hell. I think I'd have had a go with a spare bit of mirror glass and
an angle grinder at that sort of price.

  5. Well, I'd sooner pay £46 cash for a wing mirror than involve the
insurance. Sure as apples it will cost considerably more than that over
the next few years in premiums.

Well, there you have it. The definitive answer as to why no-one's ever
bothered to seriously sort out a reverse gear for 'bikes!. If the fuckwit's
who ride them can't negotiate stationery hazards on *four* wheels, on their
own fuckin property, what possible chance would they have on *two*? In
traffic? Before you knew it, they'd twat a wing mirror, then double the
damage on every other cage going back to say "Sorry for wiping your mirror
mate, I didn't know they put them so low on cars".
    :)

  7. Still worth finding out. I suspect if it's less than £300 or so then
paying up may be the best option, if you're currently on max NC.

Personally, I'd rather that car drivers just kept where they were, and
didn't dive over or move erratically when ever they spotted a bike in
    their mirrors.

Yeah, but for how long? You own a Dnepr.

I do usually wave while filtering, though.

Yeh, ciggies out of windows I don't really agree with, as there's
usually an ash tray in the car, and I think that people should use them.
This may be because I had a bad experience with a ciggie in the face at
    80mph going into a corner.
Exactly.. although I'd sooner presume that the driver hasn't seen me, I
feel safer thinking about every 4+ wheeled thing that way. So, even if a
driver acts as though he has seen me, I ignore it.

Have you _any_ iodea what a well-used ashtray will do to the price of
a used car? Not to mention the smell. No, the only answer is to ban
smoking in cars completely, as it's surely at least as much a
    distraction as a mobile phone.
