Gee... I'm actually quite heartened (much to Knobdribble's chagrin, no
doubt) by this bunch of replies. Pleasant surprise.
I can't killfile xx. I cannot deny that one day s/he might type
something deserving of a response. In the meantime, it's all just
    wallpaper.
I'd love to have been able to examine the facial expression that went
    with that comment. ;-)

I'll try to keep you entertained, George. I feel the urge to revisit
the bikie laws thingie, after David Marr's piece in Saturday's SMH.
Also I'm still not happy with the "it's only murder if it's been to
court" crap. So, as soon as I can sufficiently crawl out of my slough
of despair, I'll pound the keyboard some more, don't you worry about
that, you mark my words, you, you ,you...

One day Knobdribble will have guts to not only tell me why he's got it
in for me, but also hang around long enough debate it to a standstill,
but until then, I'll treat him like the gonorrhoea infected prick that
    he is.

I often have a "whoosh" moment when reading this group. It's only
    natural...

I'm gald you were able to undestand that. Now, for your next trick,
try to understand that your sentence takes on a more accurate meaning
if you read the "you" in the generic sense rather than the specific
sense. Off you go now, my little overqualified ignramus. Haven't you
got some emus to chase, or something...?

Don't feed my ego. It's very dangerous to feed my ego. Just ask
    Knobdribble.

So are you saying that you still look at every Biggus post and decide
whether to read it or not Betty?
Or have you, like I, already made the decision that some posters don't post
things that interest you so you step over them and read the stuff that DOES
    interest you?
If so; you're a mug doing it manually when the machine can do it simply and
    automatically for you.

I've only killfiled one person, and it's not Biggus! Biggus' posts are often
so minimalist and decontextualised, though, that I don't know what he's
    talking about.
lol, yep, coz pressing that little down arrow again and again is giving me
    massive muscles *grin*

none whatsoever - but I'm giving myself choice - on a whim I can breeze in
and read (or not) whatever happens to be there, whereas if I killfiled the
posters who sometimes annoy me, (a) there wouldn't be a lot left to read
some days, and (b) I might miss something interesting.

I suppose it's a bit like buying a newspaper - I skip the sports section and
the finance news unless something grabs my eye, pick and choose which bits
of news I want to read, depending on my mood, and then go for the horoscope
and the cryptic crossword anyway *chortle*.

I suppose it helps that I have my usenet news view set to 'Show unread
messages only' - so I don't have to wade and re-wade through absolutely
everything. If I ignore today's drivel from x.x, it disappears from view,
never to be seen again as soon as I close my news.

    Works for me... :)

The criteria for killfiling: writing something mindlessly irritating - a
lot - and having a really really long signature. Am considering adding
incomprehensible textbabble one-liners to the mix as well. Now jl, you may
be a lot of things, but you are never mindless, and you don't have a
mile-long sig. Oh, and one-line posts aren't usually your thing either, are
    they? ;-)

    I agree with you betty.

I have boundless optimism that even the most annoying poster may,
occasionally, post something interesting, amusing, or, in some way,
    appealing to me.

So far, only Hatz (or whatever he calls himself) has let me down.
