That didn't work either, but this might:

    *ker-thunk*

(That was the sound of the resale value of my bike hitting the floor,
from a starting point of not very far above it.)

A real-life working example of the antithesis of "synergy".

    Great work Andrew
    (A+) and a gold star.

    Good plan.

It'll probably spontaneously disintegrate before then as well - save me
    the hassle of dismantling it.
    What about me, though?

Slacker. I learnt that by sleeping through Economics 'O' Level.
I understand all that. However, you specifically mentioned Guzzi and
    Laverda... what about Aprilias?

  8. You know, I felt old a while ago. I now feel young, as I did GCSEs.

You're both far too young. I don't think the idea of 'O' level, or any
computing course in schools had even been vaguely contemplated when I
was at school, let alone GCSEs.

Oh, so you did. I just wasn't paying attention.

They probably called them 'difference engines' in your time.

Only after about 1973, IIRC. Before that they used grades 1 to 9,
where 1-6 were passes and 7-9 fails. These then got condensed down to
    A B and C passes and D and E fails.
Allegedly. Lods of differences between the syllabus though, meaning
that a 'real' O level would nearly always be preferred to a CSE.

Are you telling the world this for a reason or did you think that I didn't
know which of my qualifications were 'O' levels and which were CSEs, despite
my footer making it perfectly clear that I do?

Although some would say [1] that it was easier to wing a C grade O' level
whereas you really had to work to get a CSE grade 1. My own O level
    results were unexpectedly [2] abysmal.

[1] those who only have CSEs probably (the mongs)
[2] by me (the surprised mong)

  18. The school I was at did O level computer science.. we had (gasp) a
    link to the Borough mainframe..

O - and a few RML 380Z PCs. As well as about 10 BBC B's
    (fresh and shiny!)

This was about the late 70's, early 80's.[1]

Mind you I didn't do the O level - and then wasn't allowed to
do the A level because I hadn't done the O level. The fact that I
knew 10 times as much about comuters
than the O level mob (having build my own PC and learnt
assembly language to program it) didn't seem to enter into it..

    Phil.

[1] I can't be bothered to work backwards. I'm 39 now if that helps
    any..

Coo, my first programming job was on Burroughs B800 and B1800's
programming in Cobol in some strange language called MPL. That would be
    about 1981-2 ish.

<sigh> happy days spent writing a connect 4 game in Cobol.
