Aprilia Falco Side Stand Problems

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by VødkäJéllÿ, May 30, 2004.

  1. Hi All

Please could you help me out on this. The bike sits too high/upright on
the side stand and it makes it unstable. Has anyone got any ideas or
could maybe point me to a site that will help.

    Cheers

Get the sidestand cut and welded, as follows:

A competent welder will easily be able to do this job - just ensure
the joint is V'd so you are able to fill the join with weld as opposed
to a butt joint - or have the arm sleeved.

I never had a problem with mine, but: if you don't want to go for the
cut 'n' weld solution, Renegade make a bracket that changes the angle of
    lean:

Alternatively, AF1 Racing can supply a billet aluminium sidestand...

Ha! You think I never noticed that.
OK, lemme explain: I never said sidestands were cast iron. I gave cast
iron as an example of something which is a bastard to weld, even if you
use the correct nickel based electrode. Get it wrong and you have a
completely useless weld, as eny fule kno.

I have been inspecting welding (amongst other things) for the last 25
years and know a bit about welding and the welding industry.
Just to give you something to worry about, I am presently inspecting
welding on bits for the new Wembley stadium. Last year it was Swiss Re,
before that it was the London Eye, etc.

I don't think welding is the option for my bike, was more looking for an
adaptor. Thanks for your reply though!

  12. You said ANY ideas. Muppet.

You need a shorter side stand.
An angle grinder will give you a shorter sidestand.
It may not be what you would like, but it will solve the problem.

lol :O) I did, you're right. Even though we know it needs the adaptor,
we cant get hold of one, and it looks like the dreaded angle
grinder/bend it out a bit approach is creeping nearer.

Oh I know. I've tried to weld CI, sometimes it worked, mostly it didn't.
The only time I had any real success was using a bloody great gas hearth
to keep the temp of the piece up and let it cool slowly.

There's nothing quite like that feeling you get when you look at the
weld and admire your work, only to hear that devastating ping as it
    cools and cracks.
We know who to blame, then.

Helps to peen the toes of the weld after every run.
The worrying thing is that it's all welded in Holland (except for the site
    welds, obviously).
