Aprilia 6.5 wanted

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Chris, Feb 25, 2005.

  1. I was thinking of the noise. At the moment they sound good and I can't
see that cutting the "empty" bit off will make it louder BICBW.
Those BS stamps, if there were any got wasted with the stainless steel
sleeves. I'm going to ask my friendly MOTer next time I go down that
way, he didn't have a problem with the exhausts before but that might
been because there was no obvious sign of a race can.
That's a rather expensive option. I wonder if those end bits have got
    any thinner since last summer?

It also follows that if a BS marked can were to be transfered from
another model / make of bike, that would no longer be legal either. As
is my understanding of the words written on my Bandits standard can.
In that case, what WC needs is an exhaust pipe off a standard CBR1000,
    just in case.

Which bike is that? I thought you only had one.

Bollocks. You're generalising a bit there. Loz's new Quill can for
example, is BS marked and legal for road use. That can will fit a
variety of bikes and the slip-on variety a bigger range again.
That would prolly be the cheapest option, but a borrowed pair of cans
bearing the appropriate mark would suffice. Or, as he suggests, the
steel sleeves from his originals, which are still kicking around here.

  5. I was watching American Chopper this evening and Paul Jr. was building a
Comanche helicopter[1] and IMHO, my ratfighter looks much better. It
just goes to show you don't have to spend $100,000 to come up with a
    work of art.

[1] About the third time I've seen it.

You have a point there. I think that the words on my Bandit can may be

If he needs a can to rivet a steel sleeve onto, I've got one.

  7. If the worst come to the worst, I'll cork up one side (don't forget
mine's got two pipes) and put a borrowed can on the other, bodged up
with gun gum or something equally disgusting.

On the other hand, someone is going to give Mr Teutel $100,000 for the
bikes he makes. This is unlikely to happen to you.

  9. You know, in my dreams I wanted to go over there and show them my bike
and how it should be done. Tomorrow, you will witness them getting the
engine back and it will still have unblacked bits of chrome on it. They
decide that it looks "cool" just the way it is and carry on
disappointed. If they were any sort of bike builders they'd go and do
what any self respecting bike builder would do and buy a can of freaking
    exhaust paint.

I must be an unbuilder, as I polished all the exhaust paint off my FZR. :)

Was the helicopter bike the one that seized its engine? That'll be the
shite oil system on the Harley then. Apparently, the fix is to run the
idle at 1000 rpm in very hot weather, so the oil system keeps doing what
    it's supposed to.

Actually I really like that programme but it's almost impossible to watch it
    in the right order.

  12. That's the one. In their bid to set it free they managed to set fire to
    it as well :)
This had something to do with a selector of sorts getting jammed on the
crank somehow but don't ask me HTF it happened, I don't want to spoilt
    it for you.

[1] This *may* be the route my bikes takes one day if I ever keep it
long enough. Gawd knows it isn't worth much[2] in its current state.

[2] It does attract admiring glances, however.

Me to. Initially, it got quite good reviews. Later, when the rags
realised that Joe Public really didn't like the styling they tended to be
    a bit less complimentary.

I don't think I've ever seen one in real life.

  14. Yeah, "That's sick, isn't it?"

    "Awesome"

It used to be that one series ran at 6pm and the series before came on
at around 10 IIRC. They'd start one project on the Monday and finish it
on a Tuesday leaving a weekend to finish the third (the helicopter bike)

The way you can tell the current series from the old (school ;o)) is
Paul Senior's OCC tattoo on his left arm. He hasn't got it in the
programmes that are on at the moment.

There used to be one parked at Brighton station from time to time.
Unfortunately it looked as if it wasn't looked after and lived outside.

So it looked like any other well maintained, garaged, 6 month old

Probably a bit unfair as this one was very obviously stored outside but
    yes.

Heh... it's an ongoing thing, rather like all rats.
Nobody seems to notice my FZR now it's back to shiny black. It's hidden
under a cover at the mo, waiting for weather I can spanner in again.

  19. Leave the cover on it when riding. I guarantee you'll get more people
    looking at it than without.

I'd have to cut a head hole or eye holes out first.
