    Yes really,

I know you all hate them but I am looking for a nice one to preserve for
posterity. My posterity anyway. There must be loads of them stuck in
dusty corners of garages & dealers "make me an offer" sections. Anybody
    seen any nice ones about?

If you have forgotten (or managed to forget) what they looked like try
    this:

  2. Hrm... Do you have another picture? The bike in that one seems to have
    melted.

I quite like it. This, I realise, is not everyones' idea of a
    recommendation.

unbelievably, they're even worse looking IRL.

Philippe Starck can do watches and furniture, but he should leave
motorbike design to someone who has a clue.

  9. I like the exhaust. Gives me an idea...

Anyone taking an angle grinder to the BOSM?

Just leave it in the road and let some HGVs run it over.

  11. I'd never do that knowingly or willingly to my lovely bike.

Be honest - would you notice the difference? :)

  13. Look, all I want to do is cut the exhaust, not cripple the bloody thing!

Do you want an alloy race can? I've got one at my old house still, it's
not pretty, but it works... well.. takes the edge off that unsilenced
    exhaust effect.

  15. Thanks but no. I'm happy with the way mine sounds atm and taking the
baffles out helped make it quicker. What I want to do is cut the
remainder of the bulk off so there's just the slightly fatter bit left
    on the end.

I'll try and do it here:

    /|\

    cut here

No probs. I'll keep it in the pile of bits just in case my Bandit rear
pipe breaks and I need to get it welded up.
That'll make it very loud. =:-O Almost open pipe type loud I'd bet.

  17. I was expecting it to be earth shatteringly load with the baffles cut
out of the end but it isn't. Even when it was totally open it sounded
nice. I suspect there's more baffles in the "middly fat" bit, I.e. the
bit between the pipe and the end piece.

  18. What's the law regarding cut down pipes anyway?

I don't expect that there is a law as such that states "Thou shalt not
    cut pipes down".

However, I bet there's a provision that requires use of BS or E marked
pipes/cans and that any modification of said pipe/can invalidates the
BS/E certification (according to the certifying body). This would, of
course, render the modified pipe/can illegal for use on the road.

WGAF? In the case of a modified exhaust (as opposed to the more
normal fitment of a 'not for road use' can), the worst you're likely
to get is a producer and a Vehicle Defect Rectification Notice
requiring you to fit a legal exhaust within 7 days.
