  1. Are you suggesting there is a corrupt police officer somewhere in
Merkainia? Shame you haven't got The Times to write to and complain about
    it.

A wise idea, whole countries have been invaded for less and if you rely on
the experience of it's allies you wouldn't want to be witching 100 miles
of the target if it is a merkin finger on the trigger.

When my year on an International Permit was up in BC I had to take
a bike test. Unfortunately I didn't book it early enough and had to run
on a learner's permit for a couple of weeks (no freeways, daytime only...).

The tester got me to sit on the motorcycle and point out various
controls. Then he asked me to take the bike (a Katana 650 shaftie, not
the lightest of bikes) off the centre-stand. He obviously expected me
to dismount to do so, and was visibly taken aback when I just rocked it
forward onto a locked front brake and then gently released the brake to
    roll slowly off the stand...

I shouldn't have filled up on my way across town, though (the
tank held 24 litres). It's an automatic fail if you put a foot down
on the figure-of-eight test, but the topheaviness of the bike caught me
out. However, since I did everything else flawlessly the examiner
decided he hadn't seen my quick dab.

I have a UK and a Maltese one. I took bik and car tests in both
countries within a year when I was 17/18. I haven't tried to get my
Maltese one changed for the new style EU type, I've still got the old
red book with my photograph in it like the UK had until about 1973.

    Higgins wibbled forthrightly:
Can they really do that? It'll be discrimination, as after all, it's an
EU licence. Doesn't happen to me over here.
